Based on the movies, how would you rank the actors who played the caped crusader?
Personally, I'd go:
1. Christian Bale 2. Michael Keaton 3. Adam West 4. George Clooney 5. Val Kilmer
I'm guessing that Affleck will be amazing as an older Bruce Wayne.
I bring this up because I've been watching the Burton era ones on IFC all morning and I can't get over how much I hate the Kilmer version. Although, I'm not sure anyone would be good with Chris O'Donnell's Robin.

1- Michael Keaton 2- Adam West 3- Christian Bale 4- Val Kilmer 5- George Clooney
I don't blame Clooney for being so bad. He did the best he could. As for Chris O'Donnell, I loved his version of Robin in Batman Forever, but they turned him into a whiny douche in Batman and Robin.

1. Michael Keaton
2. (Tie) Adam West and Christian Bale
3. George Clooney (horrible material to work with) 4. Val Kilmer
I should note that I consider the 1989 Batman to be the best of the movies so I'm VERY biased towards Keaton.

Keaton is Number 1 by a mile. He possesses that rare "he's just crazy enough to pull it off" vibe while still having "he's serious enough to not make it seem like a joke".
That's one of the main reasons I believe the Joker is Batman's #1 villain. They are both batshit insane people, one just uses his crazy for good.
That said, West is my favorite. Because I LOVE his absurd vision of Batman/Bruce Wayne. But even so, I still acknowledge that Keaton is better.

Kilmer/Keaton > West > Bale > Clooney
-If we had Kilmer's Wayne mixed with Keaton's Bat, we'd be in business.
-Even given the era, I am still convinced Adam West could have played a good serious Batman too.
-Bale will never fail to sound like he stepped out of a DC Comics porn parody.
-Clooney tried to channel West but still looked and acted like George Clooney...

Keaton works best because he's a geeky oddball who doesn't look strong or tough, which is a perfect disguise for a vigilante who kicks people's heads in. No one would suspect he's Batman. Also, when he becomes Batman, he merely acts more seriously. That's all it takes. No stupid Bat-voice. Christopher Reeve did the same thing as Superman. Act like a goof in public, get serious as the hero. It's just that simple.

1. Bale. 2. Keaton. 3. Kilmer. 4. Clooney.
I don't count West. Love the guy, but that's a whole different Batman.

If you count Mask Of The Phantasm then I can say Kevin Conroy plays my favorite Batman.
Based on live action movies, I've grown to love Keaton's the most over time. After him is Bale, then West, then Kilmer (who played a great Bruce Wayne, though), and even though I'm a fan of his Clooney is dead last.

It's a testament to Keaton that he had the least accurate portrayal but is still the best version.

Bale West The rest
Bale belong to my favourite Batman films so the bias is there, but Keaton just had the problem with he never came across as if he was trying to be Wayne. More like he was a costumed vigilante who just sort of half-arsed the secret identity thing.

Can I count animation? Cause Conroy, definitely.
All the live action Batsies have critical flaws. Actually, the WEST version might be the most accurate to what was going on in the comics at the time!

Among the live action ones, I can't really rank them aside from knowing Val Kilmer is is dead last for me. The reason I have a hard time ranking them is they all have a flaw to them. They all either make a great Bruce Wayne or a great Batman, but none of the live action ones I've seen so far has been a great Bruce Wayne and a great Batman.
I have hopes Affleck can finely break that for me.
As it stands my favorite Batman actor so far has to be Kevin Conroy. He's the only one to be both a great Bruce and Batman.

Can I count animation? Cause Conroy, definitely. If we count animation, Conroy easily takes it. He's the only one to have absolutely nailed both Bruce and Batman.
