So they made a game staring Sub Zero
...Thats good
You have to gain exp to use his moves
...Thats bad
But then you can use all his moves like in MK2 and 3
...Thats good
But the controls suck hard.
...Can I go now?

Weird choice for Christmas, but I guess with Sub-Zero it makes sense.

I can't believe he's never done this one before; it's awfulness is legend. I remember an old N64 site I'd go to back in my middle school days, they'd rank their reviews on a 0-100 scale...far as I can remember, Sub-Zero was the only game to outright get 0%.
Very, very glad I never asked for this one; my brother and I went through our "we want anything with Mortal Kombat on it" phase a little before then, but seeing those reviews told me it'd be a world of hurt.

As a huge MK fan, I cannot wait to watch James tear this one apart.

MK really peaked in 1994/95.
MK3 was when things started getting a little too cheesy with power ranger ninja cyborgs and makeup-laden hovering queens with bad wigs and sonic screams. MK: Armegeddon and MK Mythologies were like watching a once-great band turn into a self-parody.
Dem pillar deaths, tho.

Watching this earlier today...I respect the idea of trying to expand the mythos of Mortal Kombat with other games, but save for one time is just doesn't work (and that one time was with a character that people think is one of the duller original game ones, Liu Kang). At least the series is back on track ever since the 2011 game.

I'd say that Mortal Kombat 4 was where it went down hill.
I fully enjoyed 3 and ultimate 3...
but 4 was just not good... transitioning into a 3d fighter was not at all a good idea.

Wow, that game looks seriously frustrating! The Nerd obviously has to be selective about what kind of footage he uses, but if the footage in question is even remotely representative of how the game plays, it's something I'm glad I never wasted time on. Better to stick to MK2 or MK9 (... or possibly MK10, but I haven't tried that one yet).

For years, the only criticisms I heard of the game were that the FMV cutscenes were laughably bad, and that the control scheme was strange because you had to press a button to turn around. It seems that there were a ton of other problems that others did not talk about.

I found this game at Goodwill for 99 cents. I played it once.
Then I promptly used it to convert my copy of Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 to work on my N64.

There are so many things flawed and wrong with this game that it's insane. And those pillar deaths he showed aren't a rare anomoly, those things show up after the first enemy in the game. And there's no explaining how bad the controls truly are. They are even worse than he makes them sound, and he makes them sound pretty shitty. I've never understood, for all the flack E.T. and Big Rigs and so on get for being bad games, why MK Mythologies isn't in the exact same sentence. At least with E.T. there's only so much that can go wrong, and as a game it's functional, though unquestionably flawed. Big Rigs even has funny moments and can at least be fun for a quick novelty or a laugh in how bad it is. There is not one single solitary redeemable quality about MK Mythologies. The controls, the level designs, building up Sub-Zero, the sound, the death traps, the repetitive enemies...1 out of 5, 1 out of 10, 1 out of 100. The worst game I've ever played in my life.

It's as frustrating as it looks.
