The men have a WORLD title, so why not the ladies?
I can understand NXT since it's a developmental organization, but even they are travelling outside their boundaries now.
In the history or the Divas/Womens title it was never considered WORLD yet the company does travel worldwide on tours.
Anyone?

Vince couldn't understand the concept of women fighting in UFC, something tells me he's not too receptive of the idea of a woman being considered a world champion.

I always thought it was funny they even needed to say "Women's Champion" or "Divas Champion."
Couldn't they just say "World Champion" for who ever has the belt?
Its not like people are gonna look at Reigns and go, "Hold up. Is he the women's champ or the men's champ?"

I always considered it a world title for women, it didn't need 'world" in the name.
For years the top title for men was known just as the WWE Championship and that was always a world title.

WWE did try calling the Women's Title the "Women's World Title" in late 2002 on the Raw brand, JR would reference it as such on commentary, as would Bischoff. I guess with bringing in a World Heavyweight title and rebranding the tag titles as the "World Tag Team Title" they wanted to differentiate from SmackDown using the "WWE" branding. Didn't last long though. As I recall Jazz once saying, there is no "men's title" in WWE. There is a women's title and there's a World title. I guess in kayfabe, there's nothing stopping a Diva challenging for the World title.

I don't think they use "World" for any title but the WWE WHC. I don't think any of the NXT title have it nor the WWE Tag Team titles. Just one of their little quirks to make a title seem more important.

If female wrestlers outside of the E were called Divas, then sure...

Like when someone calls Roman "WWE Champion", I think the "World" is implicit.

WWE does not care about the implied or accepted message about world title status. They are concerned with branding and marketing. Titles are prop pieces in their shows. This is a change they fostered to seperate the WWF/WWE brand from other promotions long ago. When it stopped being an entertaining sport and became sports entertainment, the need to legitimize their titles with sports centric logic ceased to exist. The name of the title simply delineates what segment of the show you are now supposed to be paying attention to (three rings of the circus theory).
That isn't a knock on this method in any way. It was smart and as this is now industry standard (think hardcore titles, x-div titles etc.Vs US or cruiserweight titles), it shows how strong WWE's branding was and is via its influence

She was in a triple threat with Triple H and Jericho on the Draft 2002 episode of Raw. I know we joke about this kind of thing happening again because of her current on-screen character... But it is funny to think that at one point, she was legitimately one lucky three-count away from technically being the world's top professional wrestler.
