I know that Bradshaw has been on commentary for years, but what was your opinion on when he first started doing commentary during those days? I remember he was retired for two years, with his last match being on the Smackdown after Judgment Day that year, but when Tazz had gone to ECW, JBL had replaced him as the color commentator for Smackdown. I remember thinking he was funny on commentary during that time, which was different than what I was used to seeing him portray, and that was a slimeball heel. Of course, we all know that he went back to wrestling sometime in late 2007 or early 2008, but that only lasted until 2009.
I know people make all these jokes about saying Michael as "Maggle," but that pronunciation had existed long before then.
Any thoughts?

Highlights of this time period were:
"Monkey butt ugly" "Dance with the lights on bright" "Fruit booty" "Shut up Maggle" "I don't like Rey Mysterio" "I love it Maggle"

I think he's the great example of showing how commentary philosophy in general had changed between his two tenures in the role. Between 2006-2007, he was a great colour guy with some legit funny moments and credible insight. From 2013 to now... He kind of isn't that.

He is so much better now. He repeated himself way to often and thought the louder he was the better the point he was making. He came back as the greatest heel commentator ever back then he was very far from that.

I didn't like his commentary then either, although a lot of that has to do with a general dislike of the gimmick.

His first run on commentary is why people wanted him to return in the first place. I miss lines like "ball game" or "call a fat lady and tell her to sing". He was rough on Cole, but clever and insightful on commentary, too. JBL is now almost an exaggerated parody of himself, just yelling and acting like a dumb southerner for no reason.

I remember him actually comparing London and Kendrick to the Simpson Brothers of WCCW fame. Thats a reference i NEVER thought i'd hear on WWE tv.

I thought he was great with Cole when he first started. Thought he came across as a lot more aggressive. I think that was due to just having to retire and still maintain his bad guy aura though he could still be funny. I think he comes across as less aggressive nowadays due to him being completely out of the game. I still like him but can see why others don't.

I was watching some Smackdowns of this era, and oh man, he was good. Despite being a heel, he just ripped any gimmick he didn't like; I remember him being particularly brutal with Sylvan and the Miz. Those guys, plus Vito and Jimmy Wang Yang, we got almost Heenan-level routines from him.

remember when he completely eviscerated Miz during his debut? that was one of the harshest burials I've ever seen.

He is more PG now, more like the rest of the guys...a weaker version of himself back then. I wouldn't say he has changed that much but back then he was on Smackdown exclusively before the PG era so he was so much more free in how he could act.

He was okay then. He's now the one of the worst commentars in WWE history that wasn't a "comedian" or interested in people's weights.

remember when he completely eviscerated Miz during his debut? that was one of the harshest burials I've ever seen. To his credit, after Miz cut his worked shoot promo that involved him getting kicked out of the locker room for eating chicken and I believe also called out JBL, JBL said that Miz proved him wrong. www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKU_k9mcZsc

I remember he was pretty popular here during that time, and for good reason too.

JBL's freakout during a Sylvan vs. Jimmy Yang match still remains one of my favorite commentary moments to this day:
"I hate you, I hate both people in the ring. The referee is Canadian, I hate him too. He's the one who counted me out against Rey, who I also hate! I got beat by Bobby Lashley, who I hate! I'm the one that dropped the championship to John Cena, and I damn sure hate him! I hate all of you people!"

I remember him calling Khali a "Walking ATM machine" about 40 times in one segment.

I liked his commentary. He tended to put people over a lot and I quite liked how he had his favourites regardless of whether they were face or heel. Like, despite being a heel commentator he always loved London and Kendrick and Matt Hardy.

He somehow managed to ridicule and put over Deuce and Domino during their debut which was pretty impressive.

I was watching Armageddon 2006 a few nights ago and I gotta say, his concern for MVP throughout the night as well as taking a shit on the crowd taking a shit on the Cruiserweight match were highlights.
