Wherever you are, thanks!
I'm not too sure how much you actually preferred to work on this day, but from restaurant workers, movie theatres, bus drivers, security guards, etc..... who do and probably deal with some interesting characters on this day, I say thank you.

Here, here. My cousins have worked retail and in medicine respectively and they've dealt with some...some special type of people on Christmas.

Cheers to the employees.
Jeers to the customers.
Feel bad for the mcdonalds near my house. Passed by and BOTH drive-thru lanes were full with more people coming in. Like really, who wants to eat shitty ass mcdonalds when you should be at home with family, eating home-cooked meals

I bet you there are just some who are taking liberties at the employees too who have to work. It's Christmas, at least make em feel good, says I. Honestly, I'd gather from my own interpretation maybe 90-95% of the workers actually wouldn't want to work that day, since it's holiday pay anyways. Is the time and half really worth the extra aggrevation? Some people do just need breaks in life.

I feel the same. The two convenience stores by me are open. I get gas stations need to be, but shit like McDonalds and drug stores, just makes me think the places are greedy. But some people are really digging/need that double time play, and maybe, unfortunately, don't have anything better to do. If I didn't have anyone to spend Christmas with, I'd probably rather work than sit by myself.

I appreciate them by not leaving my home and adding to the bullshit they are dealing with working on a holiday

I greatly appreciate these people, especially this year since I'm traveling around and need certain services.
However, I have to question the "people should not be working/making people work on Christmas" thinking. What makes Christmas this super special holiday that everyone must observe (or at least take time off for)? I, for one, would have no complaints about having to work on Christmas if I were asked to.

The most annoying for me is people who go out than say how awful it is that they have to work on Christmas/Sunday/whatever, with no self-awareness that they're the reason they do.

My family went out for Christmas brunch this year at a really nice restaurant.
It was insanely busy and the staff was absolutely top notch and unbelievably professional.
I made sure to tip handsomely.

I had to work today, was not happy about it, but I came in. The restaurant I work at was a mad house. I've never seen it that busy. One customer said she appreciated us being open today and thanked me for working today, which really took a bit of the sting out of having to work. I'm surprised I got out only 30 minutes after I was scheduled to.

What makes Christmas this super special holiday that everyone must observe (or at least take time off for)? I, for one, would have no complaints about having to work on Christmas if I were asked to. I don't mind businesses being open, but being open regular hours is kinda ridiculous. It's fine if people want to volunteer to work on Christmas, or the establishment has people on staff that they know don't celebrate the holiday. Even ea fast food restaurant would usually close early some time between 2pm and 6pm. I do understand why some businesses remain open. Some families (including mine) don't have Christmas dinner until the evening, and they're just offering people breakfast/lunch to tide them over until then. In more diverse nations like the US, UK, Canada, etc. that have people of other cultures who don't observe the Christmas holiday, it wouldn't really be fair to deprive those people of services. To us, it's Christmas Day, but for Colt Cabana, Paul Heyman, and Achmed the Dead Terrorist, it's just December 25 and they're craving some Chicken McNuggets.

I have in the past.
It sucks even more than you think.
Getting a bus and train to get there and back is a pain and there's no one around so its lonely.

I have worked it many years. Mostly cause everyone else I worked with,we had maybe 20 people working there tops, had family in the area. And all of mine was 5 hours away. So I would work 14 to 16 hour shifts X-mas day. Wasn't that bad. I would toss on some music over the intercom. Half the time end up playing video games in the break room or catching up on my always growing unread comic stack.

I called in sick. my employer is 365 days so they don't pay us holiday pay, they pay us time off in lieu instead. since there's no buses running I'd have to take a cab, lord knows how long I'd have to wait for one and it would cost me more money there and back than I'd get paid when they send me home 3 hours into my shift because there's no work. so I used a paid sick day instead.

I appreciate those that were working yesterday...because otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get a band aid for the finger I accidentally sliced.
Oh, and made my parents smile seeing the new Star Wars in theaters, so appreciation to the theater workers too.
