I don't get it. At all. It's kind of a small horse, I mean what am I missing? Am I crazy?

Well, with about 6 hours ago, I think it's safe to say American Pharoah has got this.

Had to go with American Pharoah. First American Triple Crown Champion in 37 years, and the first to ever win the American Grand Slam, which is the Triple Crown + the Breeder's Classic.

I still don't understand how American Pharoah and the Kansas City Royals as a singular choice made it on to a poll for Sports Person of the Year. One isn't even a human being and the other is multiple persons. Anyway, my vote is for Serena Williams. There is precedent. The United States Olympic men's ice hockey team, U.S. women's soccer team, and Boston Red Sox won the award as a collection of individuals in 1980, 1999, and 2004. There is not, however, any instance of a non-human winning the award. Anyway, if I had a top five, my ballot would be: 1. Tom Brady 2. Stephen Curry 3. American Pharoah 4. The U.S. women's national soccer team 5. Serena Williams I really don't understand why Williams won. She didn't even win the Grand Slam. In my opinion, that should be the absolute baseline for a tennis player or golfer to win Sportsman of the Year. First off, Djokovic had a better year than Serena. 3 Slams, made it to the Finals of the French and lost to a top 10 player (who is really a top 3 player), where as Serena lost in the semis to an unseeded player. The women's game and the men's game is pretty opposite in terms of the field right now. Granted, the women's game is a little stronger than it was at other points when Serena dominated, it is still very lacking. The men's field meanwhile has lost a little step from Nadal and Federer, but is better overall. Wawrinka and Nishikori and Murray add a lot of depth to an already pretty loaded field. And Djokovic is a cut above everyone else. Which, at least to me, is much more impressive than Serena's dominance of a weak field. Also, the prerequisite of winning the Slam is insanely lazy to me. Like Curry is on your list and he came of out a weak as hell Western conference and beat a completely depleted Cavs team, and that's good enough for 2nd? Curry is in no way comparably better at his sport than Djokovic is at tennis. That's such a high standard to say that unless you're perfect at tennis, you aren't better than a guy who isn't head and shoulders above his peers in another sport.
