Anybody remember these two turds? First, HHH gives a tearful promo.
Except if I remember correctly, the night before the crowd chanted "you tapped out" at him after losing to Brock.
Fast forward a year later.
A concussion angle that went nowhere.
Sorry H, these storylines blew hard.

It just felt really tone deaf in an era where we're learning more and more about the dangers of CTE. Particularly so in a business that has a Benoit to point to and go: "Here's what can result from repeated brain trauma."

The Concussion one happened at the same time as Ziggler was having trouble with one.

To give the concussion angle some context, it took place against a backdrop in which a very real and very public concussion was very much derailing Ziggler's WHC run.

So was this a sick RIB on Dolph by HHH? Did he and the Spirit Squad have heat so this was his way to get back Dolph?
What's up with HHH agreeing to this if he was on the Concussion Panel of Nowitzki?

I'm all for storyline injuries in wrestling. You want Ryder in a wheelchair because of Kane? Fine. Ambrose gets his head put through cinder blocks? Go for it. Limo smashes? Steel step tombstones? Blown up by a TV? Carry on.
But this sort of shit just isn't OK.

Which to my mind makes it WORSE and not better to make it a fake storyline. Want to be topical/relate it to Ziggler's issues? Give him the 'Beautiful Day' treatment, and make him a returning conquering hero if you want; full on faking something of this nature at that particular point in time just feels really off, and I'm a huge HHH fan.

The Concussion one happened at the same time as Ziggler was having trouble with one. Fandango had one as well, at the time. Almost certainly cost him an IC title run.

HHH is just never going to make for a sympathetic character. He's the biggest karma houdini in wrestling aside from his wife.
That's not to say fans shouldn't cheer him, but that's not the way his character will ever work.

He does not need to be sympathetic, he just needs HBK to get beat up for him.

I think it was just their weird and sad attempt at making wrestling "real". People knew that Dolph had a concussion and WWE probably figured "Hey, if we ride this wave and have someone on the show have a "concussion", the people will believe it!". That kind of shit is why WWE will never be taken seriously.

That kind of shit is why WWE will never be taken seriously. Whilst based on absolutely no evidence or experience, I have doubts that this was WWE and HHH's attempt to cash-in on growing concussion awareness/Ziggler's struggles. Instead, like a lot of the product, some vaguely de-jour topic was suggested in the writer's room/manatees tank and they ran with it without giving full consideration as to how gooberish it is to present an persevering concussion-suffering hero, and a part-timer too, whilst an active, full-time performer is relegated to the margins with actual issues.

HHH's need for on-screen validation is a major reason all might not be necessarily better when Vince dies.

My biggest memory of this is overhearing some woman (like, an adult woman) at a house show I went to in Red Deer talking about her concern with Triple H's condition, among many other glorious "IT'S STILL REAL TO ME DAMMIT" comments from the people in my section.

I still can't believe people think things will be better when HHH is in charge.
The same HHH everyone despised for 10 years.

He pissed all over Curtis Axel back then. What was the point of repackaging the guy just to be made to look like a dick?

He's fine when he stays off-screen. When he's on-screen, he's got to be Billy Big Balls, even though he's a semi-retired, bald, 40+ man who looks ridiculous wearing the ugliest suits ever.

He pissed all over Curtis Axel back then. What was the point of repackaging the guy just to be made to look like a dick? That was one additional question I had with the whole thing. He didn't deliver a beating that gave the concussion, he didn't deliver anything to make the existing concussion worse, he didn't pull the "I'm a sadistic motherf'er" card and beat the defenseless 'hero' into retirement. He was just there, just a body to roll around in the ring for a while until Trips decided to go with his story. That role should have been given to somebody else over somebody that they were in the midst of repackaging and pushing. I agree that this was just a topic-du-jour storyline where they gave no consideration to what's going on in reality. HHH is so delusional, thinking he can pull off this sympathetic hero character out of nowhere, when for the majority of his career, he's played arrogant privileged douchebag.

The ONE time I go to a live RAW show... It made just as much sense live, as it in made no sense at all.
