Then after the picture was taken, Meng put him in the Tongan Death Grip.

It's so much more fun to help out a relative, when thousands of Philadelphians aren't booing him mercilessly.
And yes, The Rock is pretty much the coolest dude ever.

Doesn't Uncle Tonga run a Toyota dealership...? Nice Ford! If Toyota got a problem with Haku, they know where his teeth is. To the question if Haku and Rock are related, Haku is not an Anoa'i family member. He is actually Tongan, not Samoan.

So, from that photo it looks like Rock's debut match was against Brooklyn Brawler? Is that his legit first match or is he misremembering/embellishing the tale? Was this before or after he went to USWA?

Was this before or after he went to USWA? It's Brawler. Brawler has always claimed that he wrestled Rock in his first match. I'm guessing Rocky was training, but had not yet worked a match in front of a live crowd.

It's one of the finest moments for Haku to spend time with a movie star- slightly taken down by the time that Wrestlemania VII had to be moved to a smaller arena once it was learned Haku and Chuck Norris would be in the same place at the same time, citing trying to minimize the damage.

I thought it was going to be that the Rock was taking Mica under his tutelage so he no longer sucks. Haku: Teach him to ride a bicycle at least

I was thinking about Haku the other day. Dude had a long career and really changed styles multiple times. WHen I first saw him as King Tonga, he was a well build high flyer. Then he starts the Islanders and becomes Haku, becomes a lot more mat based with the ability to still fly when absolutely necessary. Then he goes and become Meng and turns into a complete wrecking machine. The guy had an amazing career that really rivals a lot of people. The fact that to me he never got old or stale is amazing.

Tama Tonga posted this today: Polynesian Prince Tonga. Tagged with Polynesian Prince Alofa (Rikishi) in Montreal and I think San Francisco, and they were known as "The Polynesian Princes" (Yep. Shocking I know) I have a second hand story about Haku and it isn't the usual where he kicked 10 guys' asses at a bar. Maybe I told the story before. Back in the day, the Montreal promoters liked doing these outdoor public training sessions in parks where the faces would go do calisthenics with kids and interact with the fans (and sell tickets). And that day, a little kid was flying his kite in the park and the kite caught in the wind and got stuck way way high in one of those trees where the head of the tree with the branches and the leaves is really high and you have a whole bunch of bare trunk before you get to something you can grab easily. So people were tugging on the line, and it wasn't coming down, and the kid was crying, so Tonga and Alofa came over and Tonga, BAREFOOT, decided he was going up there. And he went, and he got the kite out, and he came back down. Now, he's not an idiot, the Montreal Fire Department came in in the mean time and they set up a ladder and once he got to it, he came down using the ladder. But still, you're talking about climbing a f***ing high tree with nothing easy to grab barefoot to get a kite out. He's an amazing human specimen, should be studied! Natural athlete, that's for damn sure.

I would like to think that he was connected to the Maivia side and/or Anoa'i/Fatu family, like maybe a family friend or something.

Rock mentioned that Peter Maivia trained Haku. Rock said he's known him (calls him Uncle Tonga) since he was a kid. They aren't related, but they consider themselves like family.

I wish he bought this for Haku instead. That would be bad ass to see him drive that. If you cut him off, he'll get out and put the Tongan Death Grip on you!
