I'm old enough to remember Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan; even the curtain-jerk matches they called on the rehash shows got the main event treatment from those two. I'd settle for Vince at the announce table compared to the utter crapulence that is the current announce team.
To use a few Canadianisms, Raw isn't a royal wedding, and JBL is by no means Peter Mansbridge. There are probably millions of people willing to replace JBL at the table, and several hundred thousand could do a better job of announcing than _anyone_ on commentary in WWE today. That he excuses what almost anyone would describe as a piss-poor performance by stating that commentary isn't needed on TV is perhaps one of the most galling example of WWE's contempt for its fanbase I've yet encountered. That quote demonstrates that, somewhere along the line, either he or someone higher-up in WWE forgot the role of the announce team in SELLING THE f***ING MATCH. If JBL doesn't care about what's going on in the ring, nor do his colleagues at that table nor those who put them there, how are we supposed to care? And, more importantly, what is the point of even showing a match without commentary? The commentary has always made me care. You know, I've always tried never to attribute to malice what could easily be the result of incompetence, but I'm really beginning to wonder if WWE is looking to put itself out of the wrestling business.

You know now people mute TV commentators during football and listen to the radio broadcast instead? We need an option like this. If I knew I could get away with it without getting sued by the WWE, I would love to provide live alternate audio commentary for Raw and Smackdown as the show happens. Where's Radio WWF when we need it?

As a play-by-play announcer myself, I was taught to inform the audience of the action and don't insult the viewers/listeners. Talking down or insulting someone's intelligence is extremely disrespectful and arrogant.
I grew up as a fan of two particular announcers on TV. Those men were Keith Jackson and Pat Summerall. Jackson was the voice of college football on ABC for nearly 40 years and Summerall was well known for his partnership with John Madden on CBS and FOX.
When I listened to those guys on Saturdays and Sunday's, they were extremely entertaining and explained the action to the viewers. I shudder to think what they would have sounded like if they followed WWE's dumbass philopshy of announcing.

Commentators are supposed to add to the product, see JR.
JR, in my opinion at least, added a lot to the Attitude era and is beyond underappreciated.
The commentators of today do no add to the product, they actually detract from it.

JBL doesn't really announce at all. He merely yells various stock catchphrases and buzzwords he's been told to say, at twice the volume of the other two commentators. For example, he'll say "MEXICO'S GREATEST EXPORT!!!!! MAGGLE" every single he sees Alberto, without exception. He's like one of those toys with buttons on the back and a speaker embedded into their chest. BUZZ LIGHTYEAR TO THE RESCUE!!!! "He calls them his fireflies, MAGGLE!" "Big Match John"

Well, JR posted this on his blog:
"Becky Lynch vs Sasha Banks was a healthy 15 minute match but the overall women’s scene seems flat. No well created personal issues. Sasha cheats to win but that fact is never mentioned by the broadcasters. Why?"
I guess JR didn't get the memo that this isn't radio either.

The very essence of your job is to tell people what's going on and how you feel about it, you f***ing goof. If something's crucial to the match, you shouldn't be ignoring it. ....Dana White? Anyway, any good will Jibble had with me from his first commentary run has been rather succinctly wasted away via his shitty commentary now and his terrible attitude on twitter.

So, JBL, what you're tellin' me is that you're about as useful as an ass**** right *here*? *points to elbow*.
We already knew that, Jibbles, but it's refreshing to hear you come right out and say it.

Fire JBL, fire the whole commentary team, no need for more stupid "catchphrase commentary" and WWE Network SPAM
We can see, we can listen, we can search online info about the Network, Twitter, whatever, no need to listen 3 guys yelling the same things for 3 hours

The dragging, oh the dragging. I wish I could say more about this, but it's been some time since I've watched RAW and the commentary is one of the reasons.

The best part is multiple guys are allowed to guest commentate, and when they're on, they scream at the commentators to call the action. They know the problem, the commentators know the problem, Vince knows the problem. No one gives enough of a shit to fix it. I don't think it's that they don't give enough of a shit, it's that Vince doesn't want to admit that it's wrong. He thinks him screaming in their ears is the best way to do things. Look at NXT, Vince and even Dunn don't run that, and the commentators call the match, pay attention to the story and will also hype what's happening later, but their main focus is what's happening in the ring. Hell, Beast in the East was produced by Johnny Ace, and Cole and Saxton were calling the matches, talking about what Japan means to Finn Balor, the Japanese wrestling customs, mentioning Jericho's time in Japan, and all around focusing on what we were seeing, while talking about stuff that played up the matches.

It was nice hearing Cole actually be a commentator. It is easy to forget that he actually is pretty good at it when he's allowed to be.

Scooby Doo WrestleMania Mystery. I'm not joking.

It's been time to retire these guys and resturcture how commentary is handled.
Even the wrestlers know it, hence the many times they've called out commentary during RAW.
