Good wrestler with a certain cool charisma that allowed his character to work. He was never gonna be a main eventer but not everybody has to be. He was good for his role and clearly an integral part of the midcard.

That stuff went over my head when he first started, but watching it when I got older, it was hilarious The essence of The Big Valboski flew over your head? Many could claim that. Wink, wink

From what I've seen of him, I don't like the IRL person that he is.
Still, a fine Midcarder. Something that is a lost art. The Midcard shouldn't be a bad thing, but it's nonexistent now. It's just guys who used to be Main Eventers/Main Eventers with nothing to do.

Yeah, the only current stars that are actual midcarders the way that Val Venis and others were in the Attitude Era is New Day, Usos, Lucha Dragons, Neville and R-Truth.

I didn't appreciate it at the time, but looking back, in late 98-early 99 when the onus was very much off in-ring work and a lot of guys were getting by on their look or gimmick, Val and D-Lo stood head and shoulders above the rest of the midcard in terms of their wrestling ability. A few others were on that level, like X-Pac and Jeff Jarrett, but I agree that they stood out as great wrestlers. Those guys were carrying the midcard at the time. It was different from today, more tag teams and stables, there weren't that many prominent singles midcarders. As for Val, he was just solid as hell. There wasn't one area where he was off the charts, but he was very good across the board. It was impressive how he had the great muscular build to back-up his character, but also moved very well in the ring. If he was around today he'd be considered a bigger guy.

I have a soft-spot for 2003 "Stevie Night Heat"-era Val Venis when he's be allowed to cut promos and say whatever he wanted week-in week-out before mixing it up with the hot new talent. You really got to see him be a lot more interactive with the crowd with the gimmick than he was during his 98/99 height.
Venis and Storm had some great chemistry as well. It's a shame they weren't in either of the Wrestlemania 20 four-corner tag matches, especially with so many unproven teams in them that were gone in an instant.

The hot dog part of his tron always made me crack up For me it was him in the purple helmet, rising from the bushes.

He was great in the Attitude Era and then he got fat and it kind of killed his gimmick. Ever see Ron Jeremy?

He was a solid hand. I don't think he was anything special though.

i remember there was a WWF magazine that had a bunch of random personality questions. Most of them were jokes, like his favorite athlete was "the big unit" Randy johnson. I didn't get it.
the best of all, under hidden talents, it said "I can hold a dozen donuts with no hands". I was so confused.

I always enjoyed his matches on the c shows and wondered why he didn't ever achieve more being one of the better workers in the company.

I always enjoyed his matches on the c shows and wondered why he didn't ever achieve more being one of the better workers in the company. I think he got pigeonholed as the porn star gimmick. Every time they had him ditch it to get pushed higher, it never really caught on and he'd end up back in the lower card coming out to the Hello Ladies music.

The guy's a stoner of Willie Nelson/Snoop Dogg/Tommy Chong proportions. Look up Kaptain Kannabis on YouTube.
