I swear, the feud of our generation isn't going to be between any two wrestlers, it's going to be this one that's been happening for years between company and fans.

I am part of the IWC and haven't watched RAW or a PPV since night of champions. He needs to stop grouping everyone together.

He's become what he hated in 2006. Well, if they gave you a cushy .com job for the last 7 or so years since he was taken off ECW TV, I'd think you would sell out too...

I look at the ratings each week and see that at least some of those record low ratings are from people that have internet connections.

I've never known an industry hate the people that buy the product so much as wrestling.

I am part of the IWC and haven't watched RAW or a PPV since night of champions. He needs to stop grouping everyone together. Especially since the majority of the population is online anyway so surely non-internet fans should be considered the niche market I really don't understand their issue, I mean everything has a portion of the fanbase that takes things a lot more seriously than they should but you don't see Mark Hamill moaning at hardcore Star Wars fans who complain about the extended universe becoming non-canon (Or maybe you do, I'm not a Star Wars fan and only know about the above because of a friend talking about it ha) I've not watched RAW, Smackdown or the like for close to a decade so that's one customer less. I keep up to date with current events but 1 min to skim results is all I give Also Incessant Wrestling Complainers? Move aside Just a Big Loser signs that used to be in the crowd, we have a new champion of witticism

Especially since the majority of the population is online anyway so surely non-internet fans should be considered the niche market I really don't understand their issue, I mean everything has a portion of the fanbase that takes things a lot more seriously than they should but you don't see Mark Hamill moaning at hardcore Star Wars fans who complain about the extended universe becoming non-canon (Or maybe you do, I'm not a Star Wars fan and only know about the above because of a friend talking about it ha) But that is the whole difference as well. Yes, most of the fanbase is on the Internet. But even then, the vast majority of fans ARE still casual fans who will play along and do what WWE wants. There is a portion of the fanbase that takes things far more seriously in everything...but pro wrestling has it worse than any other fandom for their uber-hardcore fans because pro wrestling is THE most malleable medium in all of entertainment. Only professional sports is a more immediate TV program than wrestling, and sports fans can't do much- if anything- to change the outcome of a sporting event. Likewise, with other TV shows or movie franchises- they all tape far enough in advance that there'll always be the fact that the show or movie is long in the can, and there's nothing to be done except sit, wait, and hope that the team in charge hears your criticisms and implements them the next time they tape. With pro wrestling, though, there is that mixture of immediacy and fans mattering- it's either live each week or taped a couple days in advance, so things can be changed within a matter of weeks instead of a matter of months- or years- if something's not going as planned. The loudest, most vocal minority in the fanbase knows this- and they're more than willing to drown out the silent majority and bitch and moan and whine and complain and hijack until they get EXACTLY what they want, when they want it, and don't care if anyone else wants it.

He was the same way in ECW - a guy that tows the company line because he enjoys being involved in Wrestling. The main difference being that ECW catered more to the fans that are the current "stereotypical IWC" whereas WWE sees itself as more catered to the casual viewer. Whoever it was earlier hit the nail on the head: imagine a company had given you what seems to be a cushy job in the industry of your dreams. Most people would defend that company in nearly every way imaginable.

Someone in wrestling as long as Joey Styles has been will have seen what happens o companies that take their fans for granted. The AWA decided that pushing Nick Bockwinkel as the face of the AWA in the 80s and poof, the fans left after Hogan did. The WWF in the 90s nearly went bankrupt because of the pigheaded insistence on pushing people the fanbase weren't that into as the smiling babyfaces because Vince liked thge cut of their jib. WCW gave the middle finger to it's fanbase throughout the NWO angle and then the bottom fell out when it looked like the big new face of the company going into the next millennium would be Hulk Hogan, then they made sure those whio tuned out never returned by letting Vince Russo turn the company into Attitude lite.
The WWF/E are only in the position they're in as they're the only game in town, but ratings are dropping steadily, the people who complain are tuning out and when people tire of network content, they're going to start seeing those numbers bleeding away too. It can go wrong very fast, USA aren't going to be happy about sub 3 figures forever, propped up by a rapidly aging demographic and when NBC don't want them, no-one else will.
