Like I've had people say "oh this is a great song, you should listen to it"
Now if it's my brother, he knows me pretty well so it's cool. Others however want me to listen to say Adele for instance, who I've never cared about, so then it feels like an assignment, and that turns me off right from the start.
I have two friends, I really like them, but without any prodding, they will tell me about some bunch of programs that sound boring to me, but they highly recommend them and I get the feeling they'd go so far as to tell me those shows are better than anything I watch
So yea, I'm not receptive to recommendations from others. I need to discover it on my own and if I miss out on it, big deal.
You?
Btw, I know I've come here and I have asked for recommendations like The Tiny Tim song a couple weeks ago-now I DO appreciate that obviously

I usually will be receptive to the recommendations, forget about it, then follow up on it six months later when no one else cares about it any longer, love it and have no one to talk to.

It's so common now that it's like noise. I usually don't end up checking said thing out.
Some people get a little aggressive about it and pull it up on their phone and shove it in my face. That's annoying.

Depends on how well the person knows me and my tastes.

If it's in person depends on how they sell it along with how the selling points interlock with my internal "that sounds cool" clock or if I constantly hear on the net about how amazing a show is. For instance I started watching breaking bad when it was already on its 4th season because I kept on hearing how great it was on here

Depends on how well the person knows me and my tastes. This. If they're stupid, I will never ever check out what they suggested on principle, even if I might actually enjoy it. If they get me, it gets creedence, just not enough to where I go after it. Don't tell me to watch something and be mad when I haven't in a week. f***er, I will get to it. Calm down. It doesn't matter.

I'll give anything a shot, but if I hate the first episode or that song, I won't watch anymore of the series or seek other material by that artist.

If it's a restaurant, it goes in one ear, hits the drum and bounces back out. Record store? I'm listening. Place to shop? Eh, if I'm in the area and remember...

Depends on the person and the topic. My brothers tell me to check out something, I'm in the first chance I get. I got a couple co-workers that constantly recommend things, one of whom has shown he loves and recommends things I hate, so if he tells me to check something out, I'm instantly out.

People recommend shit to the moon at me, and it seriously damages my perception of it. Both Breaking Bad and GoT were letdowns for me because people told me they were the BEST THING EVAR and I expected the show to just leap out the screen and give me a blow job at the end of every episode. They're both fine, don't get me wrong, Breaking Bad in particular is very good, but neither one was as good as people told me it was.
I usually listen to recommendations from people based on how well they know me and how they phrase it. People who know stuff I like and say 'I think you'd like it' I give more time to, instead of 'IT'S f***ING AMAZING' which usually means I'll hate it.
But then, I am a reactionary old f***.
