And people are also saying nothing's being done because the government doesn't want another Waco. How could this be a Waco? If they didn't have the weapons and the government came in and burned them down / blew them away, THAT's a Waco. This is a militia of armed people threatening violence and to take over the country -- American history's full of these types of incidents of citizens threatening the state, and usually burning them down / blowing them away has been THE solution. And I can't see how a PR disaster would be an issue, either, considering the vocal mainstream & social media (as well as the ever silent majority of whites and religious types) seem to be full of people who are against these people. Situations like this are complicated, and even more so now in the social media age. Like I said before, you don't want to make martyrs of the people making you out to be the bad guy. What these guys are doing is armed sedition, but all they've done to this point is Occupy a sparesely used goverment building. They're a punchline in social media, but that doesn't mean social media wants to see them all slaughtered. Further, their supporters would only be more emboldened with that reaction, because their entire argument seems to be that teh government is trying to kill independent ranching (from what I gather), pointing to a long string of events that they see as targeting one of the only ranch families that wouldn't sell their property to the government. And when you have political groups whose stance is anti-big government, big government coming in and killing a group of people who, up to now, actually haven't killed anyone is going to give them more ammo. If you're the government, you want to resolve this situation, but you don't want give them ammo either. Other than that, I actually agree with your post 100%. Hashtag activism is ust a way for people to feel like thir helping without actually having to do anything meaningful, nd while the social media jokes are funny, the comparisons are way off base (I hope ISIS doens't become the new Godwinn's law). But yeah, this could easily turn into a PR disaster in this cultural and political climate if the government acts too aggresively.

I don't care what your point is, if you need to round up 300 armed jackasses and takeover a government building to make it, f*** you.

If I got a gun and a runnin crew and they had guns and we were a gunnin crew and we took over federal property I would expect to get shot in the head at that point.

Pfft, they would probably shrug off Nickelback. It's a bunch of rancher white dudes. They're yokels, play gay disco music and deathcore instead.

Only one nation in the world would consider someone a protester if they stormed a federal building with automatic guns..

Looking from the outside in as a non-US person. These guys are traitors right ? They're a militia raising arms against their "tyrannical government." They're insurrectionists, rebels. They aren't terrorists really, cause they aren't trying to cause terror. People apply that term too loosely. That being said, the best label for them is likely idiots.

They are basically fantasists who find delusions of rebellions to be an escape from their boring daily lives, plus the machismo element of guns and war. Probably grew up thinking that Rambo was real.

Apparently the White House yesterday said that while is is something they want a peaceful resolution to, ultimately it is "a local matter." The press secretary said questions should go to the Dept of the Interior.
.....well that didn't take long.

They don't want another Ruby Ridge or Waco, the latter of which was the motive for the Oklahoma City bombing.
Personally I'd just shut off the power and water. Let them occupy a frozen building all winter.

They're old men yelling at clouds. Not worth half the attention that they are getting.

Without water and power, the building would be little more than a cold shell. That's what they should give them. I wasn't advocating the federal authorities surround the building, play music constantly or any of that shit.

Just cut everything, leave them, no barriers or fightback, just ignoring them and their idiotic group till they come out then arrest them.

Cutting off things like power, water, and supply lines pretty much makes it a siege in function anyway. A passive-aggressive siege, if you will.
