I imagine that there were higher hopes for Sam Worthington that might have went a little better if they learned their lessons about trying to make him put on an American accent.

Trying to market Matthew Broderick as an action movie star in Godzilla. In the same vein, Geena Davis in Cutthroat Island. Or going the other way, Antonio Banderas and Gerard Butler doing romantic comedy in Two Much and The Bounty Hunter, respectively.

Let's see if Daisy Ridley does anything after Star Wars.
Hamill and Fisher both got stuck in an abyss after the originals.

Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death did NOT make Bill Maher into a movie star.
Curt Thomas did NOT prove to be leading man material in Gymkata.
Can't Stop the Music did NOT show that Bruce Jenner was able to act.

Another Lone Ranger movie, the one from the 1981 with Christopher Lloyd as the villain. 'Legend of the Lone Ranger'
They cast an unknown as the title character hoping to repeat the success of Superman.. But the actor Klinton Spilsbury was so terrible (and was a real piece of shit behind the scenes) that his lines were overdubbed by another actor in post production. Spilsbury has not been in anything since.

Trying to market Matthew Broderick as an action movie star in Godzilla. In the same vein, Geena Davis in Cutthroat Island. Geena Davis was already doing action starting with a long kiss goodnight.

I always assumed The Hangover was suppose to be a vehicle for Bradley Cooper but Zach Galifianakis stole the show. Bradley Cooper of course would have a successful career and the hangover being successful helped but it feels like all the momentum went to the wrong guy. Hangover ended up getting Cooper a lot of jobs, Zack just happened to be the one who most benefitted. Poor Justin Bartha though. 3 guys who basically write their own ticket, and then there's you.

Someone's already mentioned Sam Worthington, but I need to back it up. It seemed like we were on the verge of him becoming the biggest action star of our generation, with starring roles in "Avatar", "Terminator Salvation", and "Clash of the Titans". Then...nothing. Now he's relegated to playing second fiddle to Arnold Schwarzenegger in box office bombs or starring in Indie films nobody's ever heard of like "Cake" or "Paper Planes".
Also, what about Noomi Rapace and "Prometheus"? After her starring roles in "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" and its sequels, everyone was ready for "Prometheus" to be her big breakout role and for her to become a star in American cinema. And much like Worthington, she's done nothing of note in the years since, with starring roles in forgettable fare such as "Dead Man Down", "The Drop", and "Child 44".

For what it's worth, he also voiced Alex Mason in both Call of Duty: Black Ops games. Which is weird because I don't recall them ever really advertising that. You'd think that one of the biggest games of their respective years would put some promotional power behind the fact that the main character is voiced by a well-known actor.\

I highly disagree about Hamill, he instead went to voice acting With all due respect, after a starring role in the biggest blockbuster franchise in film history, the next best thing on your resume shouldn't be voice acting. I think Daisy Ridley and John Boyega showed in "The Force Awakens" that they have the potential to be stars, but let's see if they don't get sucked up in the "Star Wars" vacuum that swallowed so many careers before them. Particularly Ridley, I think she was the star of "The Force Awakens" and aside from the prowess she showed as an actress, carrying scenes while on screen with a legend like Harrison Ford, she can be both classically beautiful and girl-next-door cute, which Hollywood still actively seeks out for roles. But they're both 23, so by the time the new trilogy concludes, they'll still be in their mid-20s, which is plenty of time to have a successful career in Hollywood.

If you go back and watch old movies you would see this cast sub credit: "And Introducing" That tells the makers thought this actor was going places. But a most of the time that would end up being their only meaningful role. "And Introducing Edward Furlong" Yep, the theory checks out.

Trying to make a comedy star out of Chuck Norris with Top Dog. No matter what you think of Norris (and lets leave it at THAT), people dont want to see him in a comedy, they want to see roundhouse kicks (not to mention, it also tried to cash in on Turner and Hooch/K-9, 5 YEARS after those films had come and gone).

Jason Biggs comes to mind. After American Pie he was give 2 comedy lead roles(Loser and Boys and Girls)both bombed and Hollywood realized Jason Biggs is not a Box Office Comedy Leading Man. Mind you he is a talented guy who consistently gets work he is just not a put's ass in seats or command the screen type of guy.

I think Cursed was supposed to make Christina Ricci a mainstream actress instead of a cult favorite.
