And here were the big ranking movers for August... MALE:-16 - Bray Wyatt, Ryback Wait, how? To be fair, he hasn't wrestled since May and is now no longer in the company. ... Oh, you mean Wyatt? Barely wrestled for the month (two SmackDown losses early in the month) and missed out on yet another big haul of appearance points by not being booked for SummerSlam, just like how he missed the WrestleMania boost that nearly the whole roster got.

Oh, I read this wrong and thought Ryback somehow lost 16 points for some reason despite not making any apperances. That makes more sense.

I'm finding it interesting that only a couple of years ago a few guys were topping 100 televised matches a year, yet this year nobody looks like getting close.

And I know the brand split is obviously a huge part of this, but even before the split everybody seemed well behind on past years. Longer matches? Protection?

I'm finding it interesting that only a couple of years ago a few guys were topping 100 televised matches a year, yet this year nobody looks like getting close. Yeah, the split's put an end to that... Although they're not actually working less matches since they'll often be running a house show for one brand while the other one is airing, not to mention dark match shenanigans. And I know the brand split is obviously a huge part of this, but even before the split everybody seemed well behind on past years. Longer matches? Protection? I hadn't even noticed a downtrend, to be honest with you.

I hadn't even noticed a downtrend, to be honest with you. Good point. I hadn't considered dark matches. I just remember a couple of years (2012-2013 possibly) where there were at least 3 guys (I want to say Bryan, Sheamus and one other) who finished the year with something ridiculous like 120 televised matches. Anyway, it's kind of immaterial because - as you point out, house shows - but if it shows a trend for less over-exposure it can only be a good thing.

Updated for Backlash.
In regards to the Wyatt/Orton result, that has counted as a match on the records as there was a bell rung to start and finish it. Wyatt claims appearance points as he actually showed up, to go with his modest points gain for the result, while Orton does not claim appearance points, but takes the small points loss for the result. This also counts towards any win or loss streaks that are active, although Wyatt's was immediately cancelled out anyway.
