Just finished watching the season finale (hopefully not the final ever episode anyway) of Breaking Ground, and I was surprised to see Michael Cole behind the scenes with HHH and Regal etc discussing the wrestlers and the show itself.
Has he always done this? Anyone know what role he plays? I always thought he was just an announcer/interviewer etc but does he have a role in developmental?

I've seen him in that ESPN NXT special with a group of people evaluating talent and what their status with the company. I think he is an advisor or something

Cole's gained some power backstage in the company these past few years last I heard. His opinion is paid attention to.

I believe he is also the producer for the commentary team on the Takeover specials.

He produces the announcers, much like Vince does for him on the main roster.

The notion of Micheal Cole having any say in talent evaluation is terrifying.

The notion of Micheal Cole having any say in talent evaluation is terrifying. No. No it isn't. He gave us Mauro Renallo. That alone says he knows how to run things like Hunter.

Cole is very good when left to his own devices, like Beast in the East for example. I'm fine with it.

The notion of Micheal Cole having any say in talent evaluation is terrifying. Cole himself doesn't suck. He's told to say stupid ass things by Vince.

I gained a lot of respect for Cole after finding out how much Vince micro-manages the commentary.
Anyone who can put up with that crazy bastard shouting down their earpiece for well over a decade must be made of sterner stuff than the average individual.
Someone as tough as Mick Foley lasted mere months in that role.

For a while now, Cole has seemed like a guy who's more than an announcer. I wouldn't be surprised to see him move behind the scenes and out of the booth completely in the next few years. He does seem to have a mind for things, and he seems like he's part of WWE's inner circle/brain trust.

He has worked with NXT since forever in a number of key roles, more than just helping to teach and produce the broadcasters. Also, his son has a job in the production department of WWE.

I believe he is also the producer for the commentary team on the Takeover specials. I think we can pretty well guess whom may be replacing Kevin Dunn when HHH takes over.

It's shocking that someone who's been working for WWE for almost twenty years would have a role behind the scenes. Just kidding. It's not.
