Aw, yeah! Time for another episode! Kinda want to finish up as soon as possible so I can probably start LPing a new one... or try new games, at least. Typing along the episode while playing takes a ton of time.
Let's Play Touhoumon, episode 35
Previously, Yin met Kasen who asked to help in finding four items that puppets stole. Two of those four items have been found, and I reckon I ought to find the other two within this one episode, hopefully. Starting out at the Hakurei Shrine, I'll check the surrounding area if the items being searched for are in the area. Offscreen, I checked the mountainside and cave near the shrine, and found nothing, so now I'll go to route 1 and then to the Human Village and search there. After that, I dunno.
Also, during the previous weekend I trained some reincarnated puppets, and there was more than the six of them. So, back into the box the team I used on the previous episode, and in goes a new lineup.
Reincarnated Yuugi, for starters. Power style, 120 cost, fighting type. Her previous self was already pretty good, but I made her better by setting the emblem to focus attack, giving her a whole lot more power. At 302 focus attack, she's pretty much the strongest focus attack user I got. Her imposing stance ability prevents her from getting damage via recoil and status effects... though I wonder if that will be the case if she misses with transcend form. She has a move called latent ability which removes half her max hp in exchange for maxing out her focus attack in battle, and that does damage her.
Bought two expensive items that will more or less help her. One is the straw doll, which boost damage in exchange for doing damage to the holder. Imposing stance removes that flaw.
The other item is the black choker. When held, it gives a once-per-battle effect similar to indomitable. So, at full health, if the foe does something to Yuugi that'll KO her in one hit, she'll survive to at least make use of her focus attack - or if I'm lucky at predicting it have her use cross counter.
Rika. Power style, 90 cost, steel and electric type. Has pretty good spread attack, but her defense stats are rather poor and she's slow... so she's probably a better choice for holding the black choker. Her ability is nice, since the last move she learns is a high-power void-type move, becoming stronger and steel type thanks to her ability.
Tojiko. Speed style, 100 cost, electric type. Fast and fairly strong, but not very good at taking hits due to rather low hit points. Doesn't help that her last two moves do recoil damage.
Kana. Power style, 80 cost, nether and illusion type. Pretty decent stats for a 80 cost puppet. I'm a bit wary of nether types in generals... as the only type weak against nether is also nether, and they're weak against both light and dark, though in exchange they're immune to fighting. Having illusion type helps, since it removes the weakness to light and dark. Has some decent moves, too.
Hijiri. Speed style, 110 cost, fighting and light type. Somewhat okay attack, and good speed. I am a bit wary on her ability, as recoil damage attacks are already strong as they are. Still, could be useful if her recoil moves can do KOs in one hit.
Keine. Defense style, 90 cost, steel type. Were-hakutaku form is steel and fighting. Could be tricky to use. Her normal form has decent focus defense, and her moves are decent but are kinda weak due to having just decent focus attack. Going were-hakutaku adds a bit more power, but loses defense in the process. Here were-form gives her a speed on par with some speed style puppets. In general, so she could survive on her were-form (as it does require her to be below half her max hp, I could have her learn iron wall stance to boost her focus defense.
And that's the team I got for this episode. Again, it might change, as there's still a few newly trained puppets waiting to be used. For now, it's time to leave the shrine!
Nothing in Route 1, and aside from Akyuu congratulating Yin for resolving the puppet incident, it seems like there's nothing new in the Human Village. Of course, before we continue on, this is the perfect opportunity to get some new costumes for the team. Yeah! Gonna spoiler it, since this could probably be a real long one:
So anyway, my plan is to check in on Eientei and see if the items Kasen lost are there. I'll check in on the Myouren Temple on the way there, and see if there's anything new. The NPCs I've run into don't have anything new to say, so I don't really have any sort of clue hinting at the whereabouts of the missing items, so there's no choice but to search for them on foot (or technically on bike).
At the Myouren Temple, the buddhist crew has some new things to say, but nothing in relation to Kasen's quest.
On the other hand, Shou is looking for a rematch, and a battle is initiated.
Yuugi doesn't get a chance to show off her high focus attack as she gets KOed by Kyouko in one hit. Tojiko repays the favor by KOing Kyouko with Gensokyo Typhoon. Tojiko gets to use that in one turn instead of two thanks to holding a haste charm. Unlike Reimu with economist, Tojiko won't be able to use the charm more than once per battle.
Tojiko probably wouldn't survive against Ichirin, but she's fast enough to get one hit in to do some damage. After that, Kana is sent out who uses sound attacks which are super effective but required two uses to finish Ichirin off. Without Tojiko doing damage to Ichirin earlier, Kana would have most likely been KOed.
Speed Nazrin out next. Freaking speedsters. No screenshots, as I pretty much lost the match against Nazrin. It was a crushing defeat... but at this point, I kinda figure out what to do.
I switch around the team order, remove a move here, add a move there, and change around the held items. REMATCH TIME!
So, first up is Kyouko. I had placed Tojiko on first so Kyouko is KOed by Gensokyo typhoon. Tojiko has the morale booster ability which increases her focus attack when she KOs a foe. Tojiko can't survive against Ichirin, but due to the slight power boost her Thor's hammer (which does recoil damage) attack lowers Ichirin's hit points low enough for Kana to finish her off, who's holding the straw dolls which do some recoil damage.
Speed Nazrin is sent out at this point. I actually lost twice to Shou, and I know for a definite fact that none in my current team is faster than her. So, instead of a futile attack effort I revive the KOed Tojiko instead. Kana is KOed, and I send out Yuugi. Naz has the attack clearing mist, which is steel type (Yuugi is weak to it) and the damage also increases the higher the cost of the foe compared to the one using it (Naz is cost 80, Yuugi is cost 120 - lowest cost vs. the highest cost). It would KO Yuugi... but I had her hold the black choker so Yuugi survives and KOs Naz with a fighting-type move (which Naz is weak against). That's one problem down. Next up is power Murasa.
I only got as far as Nazrin, so I'm not exactly sure on what to do. I heal Yuugi up to max hp, which proves somewhat useless, as Murasa KOs Yuugi on the next hit. The black chocker is a once per battle type item, I guess. On the bright side, Murasa's attack does recoil damage which takes a nice chunk of hit points away. Sent out Keine, and Murasa uses overskill again, doing recoil damage. Keine survives, and her attack does enough damage to KO Murasa, but even with the speed boost from her were-form is not enough to act first when Shou is sent out. Also, Keine is holding on to the food rations which heal a little bit of damage per turn, though obviously it wasn't enough.
Hijiri is sent out, and does decent damage... but even though she's speed style, Shou is able to hit first, and Hijiri is KO by the second exchange. Rika and Tojiko have no chance of hitting Shou, so they're used to revive and heal Hijiri who deals the final blow.
All in all, kinda a messy battle. The team wasn't exactly optimal to face Shou's team, and if I had used a different lineup the battle could have been a whole lot easier. Speed style puppets, or the ones with high speed stats in general, continue to be a problem. The ones with a higher level than my puppets will most likely hit first, and it always seems that they have the right move to KO my puppets in one hit... support moves, or status attacks, seem definitely valuable to slow the opponent down.
Well, Shou's defeated, but she doesn't have anything of interest to say. I was kinda hoping that somehow she'd have info on where to find Kasen's lost items. Still, the temple grounds have been explored, except for the cemetery and the cave beyond it. The cave leads to a doorway that won't open (and it won't open in this game - apparently the place is incomplete and was only finished on the expansion pack).
Still, might be worth a look.
I go back to the human village for some healing. A slight change in the lineup is needed, I feel, so Rika is removed from the team and back goes a recently reincarnated Remilia.
Power type instead of speed this time, and her stats have been rerolled so she would have both focus and spread attack with great potential so she could make use of both types of attacks. Her moveset is actually quite similar to speed style, though in this case it works a lot better for her since her focus attack is actually good this time around. 120 cost, and also, due to the emblem being on it, her speed is as good as some speed style puppets.
Back at the cemetery... well, there's nothing new around. During the time when Yin had to fight Hijiri, Naz was hanging around this place but she's gone now. The Touhou characters here have nothing new to say, so I'll just check in the cave to check around, then head straight to Eientei and continue investigating there.
Going through the cave, Yin finds an item lying on the ground. It wasn't there before, and picking it up causes Seiga to appear. She can tunnel through walls, which explains why she's standing on the rock walls of the cave. Anyway, in a stroke of luck, she does have the item that Kasen is seeking - though of course we have to fight Seiga for it.
Well, uh... it was an odd battle, needless to say. For starters, Seiga's team was all power Yoshikas. A 6 puppet team of them, and they all had the same move they used; body and soul. It's a powerful move that halves the opponent's focus defense before doing the move, but it has the problem of KOing the user as well. All of them used it. Yoshika (all of them) were fast, but on the first round Tojiko managed to hit first and KO one of them. After that, the rest of the Yoshikas suicide bombed Yin's team, and they actually KOed five of my six puppets from doing that move... though doing so KOed six of Seiga's six puppets in exchange.
After that odd battle Seiga gives the item to Yin and goes back from where she came from. Considering the fight, I could have probably easily won without getting a KO if I used moves like barrier option or nature barrier to avoid damage from the attacks.
Off to Eientei! (aside from Mystia now showing up in the bamboo forest, there was nothing new in Eientei)
...after all that nothing, I reckon I should go to Alice's side of the Forest of Magic. I reckon that Marisa would be on her side of the forest, probably itching for a rematch. I reckon that's where Yin will be going next, if Alice has nothing new to say.
Speaking to Alice once lets her know about the conclusion of the puppet incident, then speaking to her again makes her request a puppet fight with Yin.
Eh. Lost once, won the next round. No point in doing too many play-by-plays, as I reckon it will end up being too repetitive. Speed Marisa was the first puppet out, and like I said before... freaking speedsters. She also had a black choker of her own, which was the thing that more or less secured my first loss against Alice. Once I figured out how to deal with that (get Yuugi to survive to do the almost-KO move then have Tojiko do a fast attack) the rest of the battle went relatively smoothly.
Power Alice was infuriatingly resilient to attacks as well. Can't help but wonder that aside from the trainer puppets having great potential on their stats, if they have reinforced stats as well.
Alice compliments Yin on a good fight, but again, no useful information. I am getting somewhat impatient. In the main game there was more or less an idea on where to go, though for most part the plot felt rather aimless. The postgame feels aimless as well on progression. I more or less want to finish the post-game at this point, and I know where to go, but before that I gotta finish these last few side-quests first. Bear with this aimlessness for a little while longer, person reading this.
Calling it right now. After this episode, the next two episodes will be the last two. For this one Yin will travel across Gensokyo in search of Kasen's last lost item and fight anyone in the way. The battles with the screenshots will be like the Alice fight, short and sweet, with possibly one or two exceptions. Let's do this.
In the SDM, Sakuya is the only one who wants a rematch.
Won in the first encounter. Not too hard. Used one revive item, though.
Partially due to my puppets being KOed, not a lot of XP is given out for these battles.
At the Kappa Hideout, Nitori is also seeking a fight against Yin.
Pretty easy win. Puppets still got KOed, but all in all I didn't even have a need to use revives or healing items. Nitori had a power Aya that was brutal, though. Furthermore, so far it seems that all the enemy puppets are holding some sort of item to ruin Yin's day.
At this point, I'm beginning to consider what my team will be on the final showdown, whatever it is. Adding Koishi back into the lineup, since I really want to finish the game at this point.
After the hideout, planning to go and visit Muenzuka and the Road of Reconsideration for my search, and between that is Marisa's side of the Forest of Magic. Of course, she's looking for a rematch. Was in a hurry, so I didn't really take screenshots of this fight.
Another relatively easy fight. Koishi didn't get as much use in this battle as I had expected, but nevertheless she helped. There's also the fact that the team itself is slowly getting there to the same levels as the puppets they're facing, so they're having a slightly less problematic time in general now.
Finally, at Muenzuka, Yin stumbles across Kasen's last missing item. Searching for this took quite a bit of time, and frankly I'm somewhat happy that I'm done. Since there were no clues on the item's whereabouts, it was honestly kinda annoying to look for, and while they were optional, the fights with the Touhou characters are wearing me out, as shown by the sloppier than usual LP.
Warping back to Kasen's abode, the pink-haired hermit rewards Yin with the... rainbow magic stone. It's for reincarnation, to make rerolling for great stat potentials easier. Kinda useful, I guess. It's easy enough to reroll reincarnation with the default reincarnation equipment, so it's kinda meh.
Well, this leaves one optional place left: the cave in the Misty Lake. That'll be for the next episode, and while I'd like to end the episode now, there's just one more rematch I'd like to get done. To the Moriya Shrine!
Kanako's not looking for a fight, but Sanae is looking for one. So far, for the rematches, most of the Touhou characters uses the standard theme when Touhou characters are fought, while Reimu and Marisa uses their own themes, and the three fairies of light uses the PLF boss theme. For Sanae, it's the standard boss music in the game for this rematch.
Actually pretty easy. Used a bit of items, as it was a tempting tactic to use as speed Suwako and power Kanako liked using recoil moves. For some reason, Sanae had two speed Sanaes on her team.
Battles are taking less time to finish, though partially it's because I don't have to write so much right now. Well, all in all, I'd say that this was a pretty long episode, and I should start wrapping it up for today.
Still, might as well do one last thing. At the lake behind the Moriya Shrine, Yin discovers the third god of the shrine hanging around: Suwako Moriya, Sanae's great-great-(repeat multiple times)-grandmother.
She looks younger than Sanae, but she is the EX Boss of Touhou 10. Like the previously fought Sanae, she gets the boss music playing on her fight.
Probably for good reason, too. As the first puppet she has is Utsuho who's super powerful on both focus and spread attack. Even with field barrier, Utsuho KOs Koishi easily. The same can't be said for Tenshi, as it seems like all of Utsuho's attacks do little damage to the celestial. Utsuho goes down, and Tenshi is in turn taken out by Sanae. Tojiko is sent out, who then KOs Sanae in one hit, and gets quite a bit of damage due to the recoil of her attack.
It's an odd thing. I do a recoil move that KOs puppets in one hit, and my puppet gets half their hit points taken away (and on one occasion gets KOed from full health). The enemy puppet does a recoil move that KOs my puppet, and they only get a third or a fourth of their hit points taken away, sometimes a fifth... which really makes me suspect that enemy trainers use reinforce stats on their team.
Power Aya out next. Despite being power style, Aya puppets are one of the fastest in game, so no point in trying to make Tojiko attack. In fact, no point in trying to make the other puppets attack Aya, as power Aya loves using transcend form, and she gets easily KOed with a miss, then Keine using nature barrier which counts as a miss. Best tactic for Aya, really, since if it's not transcend form it's twister with salvo that KOs nearly everything. Kanako is sent out next, and Keine manages to get two hits in (one in normal and the other in hakutaku form) before getting KOed. After that, Koishi is sent out, who uses field barrier then catastrophe to do damage. Kanako uses peach bow arrow which does recoil damage... and due to that enough damage is done to KO Kanako with Koishi.
Suwako was... easy. Koishi set up field barrier for my next puppet. Suwako KOs Koishi, and I find out that she's holding the straw doll (which increases damage in exchange of doing damage every time to the holder when they attack). I send out Yuugi. Suwako is weak against fighting moves, so the plan is for Yuugi to almost get KOed (but she won't thanks to the black choker) and Yuugi will retaliate with vacuum rupture fist. What happens then is... well, Suwako misses with her attack, and Yuugi caves her in with one move. Easy.
Unlike the other matches Yin has been having, Suwako actually gives Yin something as a reward. Nice!
She also mentions that there was an item on the giant toad's pond. It's probably one of Kasen's items, which was already found by Yin, but I suppose it might be worth checking out again if there's something new there.
Anyway, the native grace is a holdable item that doubles XP and PP gain. Eh. I'm already tired of training puppets, but oh well, I suppose it's nice nonetheless.
And for now, that's about all of it. Next episode is the Misty Lake cave, and a few more rematches, then the final episode after that one Yin will head to an area in the map that you guys have never seen before, and maybe a rematch on Makai.
Until then, see ya all laters!

Of course, before we continue on, this is the perfect opportunity to get some new costumes for the team. Yeah! Gonna spoiler it, since this could probably be a real long one:
{Spoiler}{Spoiler}
Rika replaces her tank with that floating eye tank thing, which was what she rode as the EX boss of Touhou 2.
Tojiko becomes a bird. Futo and Miko also turn into birds for their alt costumes, because in the fighting games the two are playable characters, and Mamizou had a special move that transformed the foe into an animal, which were birds. Tojiko wasn't playable, but I guess her alt costume is a bird to match with the other two.
Kana trades away her hat for an umbrella. She kinda looks like Alice.
Hijiri gets more monk-like attire and a slightly altered attack animating.
Elis with a Harlequin hat, making her look a little like a certain Touhou character from the latest game.
Rumia chillin' in her ball of darkness. It somewhat feels fitting considering that she can't see out of it, which reflects on the accuracy drop of her brutality ability.
Yumeko still looks like a maid, albeit with a shorter skirt.
Like Marisa, Reimu goes back to her PC-98 look alongside her flying turtle, Gamera... I mean, Genji.
Much like Tojiko, Miko turns into a bird for her alt costume.
Mima looking like a yandere schoolgirl, I think. Her alt color makes her look very Marisa-like, which is somewhat fitting as she was Marisa's master back in Touhou 2.
Sariel covered in some sort of dark aura.
Lastly, Alice wearing her PC-98 attire. Alice is an odd case in the transition to PC-98 to Windows era. PC-98 era Alice was younger looking, and was a resident of Makai. Windows Alice was a human, and it's hard to tell if the two are actually the same person, but everyone more or less rolls with it and assume that she is.
