I don't really understand your point here. They both came with immense hype, and sure they weren't very good but it's not like they're Son of the Mask. They were big budget sequels that made money. That weird ass Star Wars Clone Wars movie that got thrown into theaters has always confused me. I think that was originally meant to be a TV movie... for some reason they decided to give it a theatrical release... for reasons I bet it actually was just "Hey, it's Star Wars and people will flock to anything Star Wars so let's put it in theaters haha I'm George Lucas f*** you I still love Jar Jar" or something like that.

I am biased for Paul Blart 2 because me and my love went to see it as a date. #relationshipgoals

Big Momma's House 3. Not even 2, but 3. In 2011, eleven years after the first one.

I was going to say American Psycho 2, but that one was straight to DVD. Who really thought it would be a good idea to cast Jackie Burkhardt as a serial killer?
If I had to choose a baffling theatrical sequel, it would probably be a Haunted House 2. I don't remember hearing about the first one making any money.

Neverending Story 2. Came out about 7 years after the original classic, featured none of the actors and actresses (save the librarian) despite the characters having the same names, even the voice actors for the non-human characters were completely different and sounded and acted nothing like they used to, and treated the audience to a mind-numbingingly stupid script. Terrible.
A direct to video sequel came out later and was reportedly even worse; wouldn't see it if you paid me.

Cats and Dogs 2, which came out almost 10 years after the original film.
The only things that film had going for it was somehow getting the likes of Bette Midler and Roger Moore to voice work, and having Dame Shirley Bassey do a cover of Pink!'s "Get This Part Started" for the film's opening title sequence. (Which I was making that one up.)

Johnny English 2 and Mr Bean's Holiday, both coming out about a decade after the original with no real demand.
