Why didn't I catch this in theaters? It's enjoyable in the same way Hateful Eight is, it's so much fun seeing these evil, bullying little brats get tormented by their victim turned ghost.
I know it's extreme, and no, voodoo murdering all mean kids isn't the answer, but it's fun in a dumb way. I can see a kid watching this and feeling cathartic, like, "take that".

Someone had to like it I guess I'm joking... Clash... but you are probably the first person that I ever saw say anything good about this movie...

I really liked it
But it should've ended 10 seconds earlier than it did, while it might not seem like much that 10 seconds kinda spoiled it somewhat

All I learn from this movie was I need to up my glasses prescription. This. I saw it last night on HBO, I had to stand right next to the TV in order to follow the plot. And I agree, the ending would have been much more satisfying without the last 10 seconds. It was ok for what it was, and the premises was original and modern. What would ruin it would be endless sequels like the Paranormal Activity franchise.

I saw it on HBO last night too. Not bad but yeah the ending wasn't great. Thought it would've been better if the ghost let Blaire live but posted all crap she did online, then like a week or two later Blaire commits suicide from being bullied herself and the trauma of seeing all her friends die. Instead we get a predictable generic jump scare.

I think the plot was pretty decent, and I don't even like most horror movies. And the ending was perfectly fine, those last ten seconds are the ultimate point of the movie.

I liked it, but I'm pretty over horror films where it goes, "Supernatural Antagonist murders all Protagonists no matter what, da end."

I saw the preview at the theater when I saw It Follows. It was something that looked very interesting and of the times, but then the gore kicked up and up and up to the point where it seemed too silly. I may give it a look though.

Saw it in theaters, had a blast, highly recommended. It's one of those films you watch once for plot, then watch it again to riff on the stuff that wasn't even happening in the story. I remember vividly in the theater that one of the YouTube side links at the start of the movie was like how to make Asian style Ribs, I pointed it out to my friend and we spend the rest of the movie looking for more stupid stuff happening in the margins. A really good theater experience.

I thought the bit with {Spoiler}the ghost was bullshit. I preferred it much more with {Spoiler}all of her closest friends are dead and she is seen as the cause of the suicide of whatsherface so she's now a pariah with no friends that everyone hates which I thought was far more clever.

Honestly, I think the ending still works when you think about it. {Spoiler}In the end she died with everyone hating her. I'd like to believe that's truly a horrible way to die.[\spoiler]

I like the part where the boyfriend pointed the gun at the screen, like the stupid little bastard thought that his bullets could travel through the internet and hit it's target.

Yeah, a found footage horror movie with annoying teens who act so despicable that you have no reaction to seeing them get killed and that relies almost exclusively on jump scares because it can't be arsed to set any mood or tension so it tries to make people flinch with loud noises. Never seen that before, it's really pushing the envelope, what a brilliant film. The only way it could possibly be more creative would be if these kids were going to party, do drugs and have sex. Oh wait, that's actually the backstory, nevermind.
I suppose it does stand out in that most of these shitty cash-ins that have no reason to be in theatres and should have been sent straight to video don't have blatant mistakes like a character who is supposed to be typing being shown getting up and leaving and it would be one thing if it were intentional and done as a scare to show that it's the ghost typing but no, it's a genuine goof but hey, why should we expect the filmmakers to pay attention to their film's one gimmick?
I am so f'n tired of this kind of shit being the ONLY option available when it comes to horror on the big screen with the few decent horror films being made today being doomed to direct-to-video status and making the movie festivals/conventions rounds in the hope of building a cult following when it really should be the other way around. Is it really so much to ask for characters who aren't straight-up despicable so that we might actually emphasize with them and actually be, you know, scared for them?
It's really sad if all you're trying to accomplish is to make the audience hate the entire cast for some stupid revenge fantasy bullshit with no weight behind the deaths and no attempt at creating a creepy atmosphere or building an interesting story. And I find it rather hilarious that films like Saw which, you know, actually make your root for the main characters, are dismissed as "torture porn" by people who haven't seen them while bullshit like this where the whole purpose is to make you glad the unlikeable assholes are dying are praised as "psychological horror" despite being neither psychological or horror.
Also, SKYPE-BASED HAUNTINGS?!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!

Don't get the hate for it, honestly. Yeah, I know it's another found footage film, but it's a fresh spin on a tired genre. I thought it was creative as hell to have the entire movie take place on the victim's computer screen, so you literally only know as much as they do and just watch the whole thing play out as it happens. If you can get me to pay attention to an idiot teen's computer screen for 80 minutes, you must be doing something right. If nothing else, it gets major stylistic and creative points from me.

Also, SKYPE-BASED HAUNTINGS?!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!! I don't see it as a deep psychological horror film, more of a darkly comedic ghost story with a clever anti-online bullying message. I'm not putting it on the level of Exorcist or anything, but it's a fun and yes, unique little movie from a genre I don't normally enjoy. I'll admit I didn't find it all that spooky, but I was chuckling throughout, and I'm not going to take points away if it entertained me in some fashion. What jump scares there are are few and far between. The entertainment is watching the ghost break them down and pit them against each other using the skeletons in their closet. Nothing "sad" about that, and if these kids were charming and likable then for me at least it would have been a very uncomfortable experience. And if you know me, you know I'm usually all over endearing and kind hearted protagonists like a hungry dog given some steak. For this kind of movie, there's no way that could have worked.

This is definitely one of those films where the victims are actually the antagonists, and you kind of root for the ghost as they get their just desserts. It's one of those rare cases where if they were good, relatable people, the whole thing would've fallen flat on its ass.
