I'd love to see some of the special matches taped for coliseum video and the Bobby Heenan gorilla monsoon bits or mean gene bushwackers skits.

I can't imagine why not, probably just not high on the priority list. Though I want them just as badly

They aired the entire best of wwf & supertape series on classics aswell as a bunch of superstar related tapes so eventually they'll go up.

Supposedly, because they didn't edit and compile their own tapes back in the 80s, and outsourced it to a company that also did porn videos (wish I was making THAT one up), rumor has it there are a number of 80s Coliseum tapes they don't own the masters to. They'd technically own all the matches and segments elsewhere in their archives, but not the masters for the actual tapes themselves.

So we won't see Sean Mooney on a mock Starship Enterprise set?

There is an individual on a private file sharing website for wrestling fans (which I won't disclose the name of here out of respect for the rules), currently transferring every 80s Coliseum tape to ultra high resolution digital for this very reason. He researched the company who used to be involved in compiling the WWF's tapes back in the 80s, and, while I'd have to contact him for the specifics, that is what he found.

The digital copies are only going to be as good as the masters. If he's trying to up-convert, he's wasting time and bandwidth. This is why I have suggested previously that WWE Network have a "quality" setting similar to Dish Anywhere - there is no sense in trying to watch old footage in "HD".

Nothing like that - they're still in standard NTSC resolution. He's just recording them in ultra high quality (usually around 10-12GB) to create proper digital masters. I don't mind the HD setting on the Network though, it still gives the old footage a small boost over what lower bandwidth SD streaming would give it.

Even 640x480 (which would be significantly smaller for a file size) is overkill, but is the usual standard for VHS transfers. I've transferred a LOT of VHS tapes to digital using a standard DVD recorder or a TV card to a computer. VHS is analog. You get what is there, and nothing more.

Eh, doing a professional grade transfer for archival purposes, it's not bad, though I probably wouldn't go beyond that. The same person also transferred a couple of early WWF laserdisc releases in the same way - and it's a little more justified in that case with the enhanced resolution of LD over VHS.

I forget how to act like a gentleman at the dinner table because I haven't watched Lord Alfred's etiquette lessons in a long time.

I have my doubts as to how true it is. There are about a dozen or so PPVs on the Network right now from 1993-97 that are the Coliseum Video versions, and many of the match compilation tapes aired on Classics On Demand.

Possibly, but until WWE starts adding Coliseum Video tapes to the Network, it won't be known for sure if there are tapes they don't have or are unusable.

By 1993 or thereabouts, they had already started doing their own compilations with no third party assistance, so it's not surprising those would've been on COD or added to the Network.

For everyone interested, here's an excerpt from a write-up the guy did talking about this little project of his, explaining the history of those tapes from 85-91, and perhaps providing some clarification where I could not (key section is highlighted in bold):
