www.youtube.com/watch?v=63c5RZGuejEDid anything ever come of this? I just found it very strange that they aired this one week, then interviewed him the very next week as "Daniel Bryan" and never touched back on it again. I wasn't really reading insider stuff at the time, was there ever a reason given for the cold feet on reverting to his real name?

I think WWE really did not have a plan for NXT and this was one of those times the wrestlers just threw crap at the wall and hoped it'd stick.

In his book, Bryan says Vince hated it. And then inexplicably aired it anyway, despite NXT being taped.
So, par the course for Vince.

It's funny, but at this point, the name Bryan Danielson now sounds awkward to me, like a really bad fake name. It'd be like if they re-debuted Hulk Hogan as "Hoagie Hulkington" or something.

I can remember back when it was first announced that he would be called Daniel Bryan people on this board were bitching that it sucked, and would never catch on with crowds, and that he was doomed to fail in WWE. Now it seems strange thinking of him as anything but 'Daniel Bryan'.

Probably because people were still chanting it, and someone remembered 4 syllable names work best for that

I could have seen the name change leading to something after the Nexus debut, if Bryan had stuck around. However, after that, you had months of crowds chanting "Daniel Bryan" and you just could not change his name after that.

I love how the camera shakes furiously when he says Bryan Danielson.
Kevin Dunn must've been fuming.

There was some talk that the Danielson name might have been used after the Nexus debut, and I think he even changed his Twitter handle to @bryandanielson before the news of his firing broke on the Internet.
But, they ended up sticking with Daniel Bryan when he made his return at Summerslam.

Man. They REALLY love that "Big fish in a small pond" line, don't they? Could be worse. Could be "average fish in any pond".

Where was it that Bryan suggested he went the "but Brian Danielson might " line because he felt his days were numbered and he wanted to get some gigs out of his short WWE stint?
Which is funny, as though Danielson would ever struggle to get a gig anywhere.
