It really helps that all races are on over the air antenna TV this week Monaco on NBC, Indy on ABC, and Coca Cola 600 on Fox. I think this year the Indy 500 is streaming on ESPN 3 or whatever it is called now.
I'll try to watch the first two flag to flag, but I might just catch the last half of the 600. Even when I was a NASCAR fanatic, the 600 was a bit of, for lack of a better word, chore to sit thru.

I just started working overnights on Saturdays, so I'll probably miss Monaco, but I'll damn sure be watching Indy and the 600.

Apparently the FIA has chosen Ferrari's halo over Red Bull's windscreen as the cockpit protection device for 2017. For some reason, I'm not remotely surprised that they chose the one that doesn't seem to have as good protection and was nearly universally panned for its looks.

Qualifying for Monaco has started and stopped after a couple of minutes due to Nasr's engine dying.
--------
Second red flag of the session as Verstappen misjudges the turn in to the chicane, breaks the suspension and ends up in the barrier.

Ricciardo on pole for the race tomorrow, beating Rosberg and Hamilton (who had gremlins and only got one proper lap).
With Verstappen making his way through the pack and a chance of rain as well, maybe we'll actually get a decent race in Monaco.

It's the first career F1 pole position for Ricciardo, and the first pole position for Red Bull since the 2013 Brazilian Grand Prix. Big chance of taking the win tomorrow.

Living up here in the NW corner of the state, I used to know at least 50 people that would go every year to Indy. Of those 50, I think maybe 2 still attend.
The papers don't cover Indy like they used to. No fat pull-out section with the drivers, the history.
NASCAR (and the sad IRL/CART split in the mid-'90s) changed all that.
That said, I will listen on the radio. Those guys are excited from pole-to-pole. Just no opening ceremonies for me. I'll play Jim Nabors on YouTube.

Seems there is a good chance we get a wet Monaco tomorrow.
BTW wet Monaco sounds like something on Urban Dictionary that is most likely foul.

Indeed, Monaco rain has led to some of Formula One's most iconic moments... Most notably, the breakout race for Ayrton Senna (and most likely Stefan Bellof had he not passed away a year later in sports cars) in 1984, and Olivier Panis's only career win in 1996 in a race only three cars finished.

20 minutes or so to the start of the race and it's still raining in Monaco. Hopefully we don't start under the safety car.
Speaking of the safety car, has that ever crashed?

But not in Formula 1, to my knowledge. In fact, here's a handy pre-prepared montage (not including any F1 despite the fact its on the thumbnail)... (And before anyone remembers... Taki Inoue was hit by the medical car at Hungary 1995, not the safety car)

Race will be starting behind the safety car due to the rainy weather.

By default, this is possibly the first race this year without a Lap 1 crash somewhere.

Kvyat - "Why does this happen to me all the time?"
Poor Kvyat goes back in the pits. If this was any other race, you'd probably just tell him to give up for the day.
And he's back out on track again.
