Raikkonen's so pissed, even the beep machine can't keep up and a swear made it to air. which is funny because I heard a solid, long bleep. No swearing made it to my airwaves.

Kyle Larson holds off Chase Elliot to win in Michigan and lock himself in the Chase. Finally, a (modern) 410 Sprint driver lives up to his hype and takes it to the NASCAR boys.

Big ups to Larson. Been wanting him to notch a win for a while.

Larson's been my guy since he replaced Montoya.
Glad he finally got a win, it was long overdue.

Sunday's finish was cool to watch. With the impending situation with Junior, I'm torn between Chase and Larson.

Massa was SO CLOSE to being the World Champion in 2008. Probably the most heartbreaking non-fatal thing I've ever seen in the sport was him winning his home race and seemingly the championship, only to have it swiped from him in the second-last corner of the race by Hamilton... Then he's got to go up on the podium and accept the race winner's trophy, knowing that he's basically shattered inside at this point and facing an equally shattered crowd is probably the last thing he'd want to do, and he just carries himself with such dignity and pride at a moment where he had every right to be an inconsolable mess.

In his retirement press conference, he basically blamed Crashgate on him losing the title. He said that Crashgate was the worst thing to happen to him in his entire career, because it was something he wasn't even a part of and it lowered the amount of points he more than likely would've gotten at Singapore that year.

Indeed, if he'd just gotten a decent result there, he'd have won the title. Instead that crash leads to him taking a pit stop where the fuel hose got left in the car as he left, and things fell apart for him from there that night.

Remind me again, what was Crashgate? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renault_Formula_One_crash_controversy2008 Singapore GP, Alonso started the race in 15th (due to qualifying issues) with his Renault teammate, Piquet Jr, 16th. Alonso pits on lap 12 and a couple of laps later Piquet crashes in a place that meant the safety car was deployed. Along with refueling still being a part of the race, that years regulations said that the pit lane was closed under the safety car until everyone had formed up behind it. Pit lane opens again, almost everybody apart from Alonso has to pit for fuel which allowed him to jump to near the front and win. After Piquet left Renault, it came out that he was ordered to deliberately crash. Renault were disqualified from F1 (suspended for 2 years) and lost their main sponsor. Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds both left Renault, Briatore got an indefinite ban from FIA events and Symonds got a 5 year ban. The bans were overturned, but both agreed to not work in F1 until 2013.

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/37244253I was just reading that page on the BBC about Massa's career and they've got a picture of him from just after he's out the car in 2009 when he got hit in the head by a spring. It's not really that graphic, but it does show the damage to his helmet (which he is still wearing) and the look in his eye (the other is swollen shut) is haunting.

Yeah, I'd like to see him come back for one more shot at a title before hanging it up.
I don't know what Hendrick's future plans are, but I'd like to see someone like Matt DiBenedetto get the 88 ride when Junior is done.

Jenson Button just announced his retirement also. No articles yet but it's just breaking.
EDIT: Now reading he's going to remain under contract, but will let Vandoorne take his seat for 2017 and will remain F1-fit should Alonso decide to retire at the end of next season.
Shades of Hakkinen.
