I think it's time we had separate thread on this great man. He just been on fire this year. Even the Video Game version of him can't do this well

Stephen Curry declared for NBA Draft. Doug Gottlieb "He doesnt have the upside of Rubio. Jennings, Flynn, Mills, Teague all more athletic."

I hope his team beats the bulls record, but I'll probably root against whoever they face in the finals. Cause let's be honest they're probably going to the finals.

The crazy thing is they have to go for the 73 wins, they have no choice, they're only 3.5 games ahead of the Spurs in the West. So they have to keep winning. They have to go for the record, just to stay in 1st place...it's crazy.

Blake and Harden are fantastic players, so you can't knock those 2 being selected ahead of Steph, can't say that about the rest.

Although I respect the down and dirty bruising type of basketball, I've always been partial to good shooters, of which Steph is already stamping his tickets as one of the best ever.
It's funny to read so much about how Curry is "ruining basketball" with him unlimited range, but I think he definitely represents the change taking place in basketball where if you can't shoot from your position (1 through 5), you probably won't last long in the league. I respected the Knicks and Piston teams that beat up on MJ back in the 80s and 90s, but when some of you players' only useful skill is that they can commit hard fouls on opposing star players, that's just not entertaining basketball. Watching Steph, and the Warriors as a whole play, with their good shooting, smooth transitions, and ball movement, it's just a joy to watch. And the fact that fundamentals are precisely why they are torching these NBA teams..it makes it even more enjoyable.
I think better defenses and/or injuries will eventually humanize Curry, but until then, as a basketabll fan, it's quite a ride to see someone with his accuracy and killer instinct.

Blake and Harden are fantastic players, so you can't knock those 2 being selected ahead of Steph, can't say that about the rest. That's just too easy to say in retrospect. All drafts are tough to predict, but the NBA Draft in particular is quite the crapshoot. Some years only produce 3-4 guys with a very good career. At the time, Rubio was a good pro player overseas who showed flashes of greatness in international competition at 17. Now his shooting still hasn't developed at all, and his passing is still flashy at times, but he never put it together as a Kidd-lite that he was projected. Evans was easily a better prospect and produced well until injuries overtook him. Curry was great, but him playing at Davidson didn't do him any favors and he had questions about being a combo guard. A small SG or a PG who had questions about running the offense through him. They still run a lot of the offense through Iguodala and Green, because Curry is so good off the ball working with screens like Rip Hamilton used to do. The two I would criticize is Thabeet because NBA bigs are always overvalued in the draft and Flynn who just never seemed like his ceiling was that high. At the time, it was kind of hard to criticize teams taking Evans or Rubio over Curry.

Golden State would have to bump into the Spurs in the Western Conference final. Honestly, I can not wait for that series. What I find funny yet I freaking love is Steph is not going out and saying he's going to be the next Jordan or the next Magic, and that's why he's doing it.

What I find funny yet I freaking love is Steph is not going out and saying he's going to be the next Jordan or the next Magic, and that's why he's doing it. It's the Paul Brown/Jim Brown school of skill. Paul used to tell his players "Act like you've been there before", and so whenever Jim Brown scored a TD, as he so often did while just making defenses look like children, he'd just flip the ball to the ballboy and head to the sideline. No dance, no frills, no bullshit, just cold, ruthless efficiency. I see much of the same with Steph. He doesn't run his mouth, he just comes in, does his thing, makes you stop him, watches you fail at that task, and then just keeps on going. Magic and Jordan had that, they didn't NEED to run their mouth or tell you how awesome they were, or (championship or series winning shots notwithstanding) jump around and do the "look at me" dance. They'd just come in, stick in the dagger, and then nod like "we're just getting started". Then it was YOUR job to stop them, and then you'd fail at it because they were just as good as everyone said they were.

How were so many people wrong about him?
He wasn't recruited. SETH went to Duke FFS, but nobody touched Steph. I don't get it.
In terms of what he means to sports on the whole, I think he's the next Jeter (people's hate of DJ was a byproduct of him being a Yankee and nothing else) in that he doesn't have any personal detracting elements. And I think, he's alone in the sports landscape in that regard right now.
Look at the other superstars pro sports right now.
LeBron's image has been somewhat redeemed since returning to the Cavs, but he still has plenty of critics.
Xenophobia will prevent Alex Ovechkin from ever being as truly embraced as he should be.
Bryce Harper is viewed by some as a petulant meathead - same as Gronk, really.
Steph is the most squeaky clean guy we've got right now (Sure, Leo Messi is up there, but dude messes around on taxes, so that is considered a black mark).

I think so many people were wrong about him because his skills matured later than normal. I believe it's that simple. 18 year old Steph Curry and current Steph Curry aren't in the same universe. Nobody saw this coming, except I'm sure some sports writer will tell you they did but misplaced their notes.
You just can't seriously hold it against people.

LAST SEASON'S Stephen Curry and this season's Stephen Curry are barely in the same universe. I always knew if he got the chance to lead an NBA team and could stay healthy he'd be a star. It's only this year that he's begun to truly surprise me by pretty much breaking what should be humanly possible on routine basis. Everything else felt like a gradual evolution of skills he's had since he was a kid. This year, I don't even know what's happening anymore.

f*** Steph Curry. He don't play on my team and they beat my squad in the Finals last season. He's such a great player. Like, I really get the impression that he's gonna be the greatest offensive player that I'll see in my lifetime. His wife is gorgeous, his dad was a baller, his mom is still hot, his daughter is adorable. The worst part about it all is that he's super humble and down to earth so I can't even find any flaws that I can properly roast him for to somewhat justify my irrational hatred against him because he doesn't play for my team.
...f*** Steph Curry, brah.
