Only downside is that this puts the kibosh on Simmons coming back as J. Jonah Jameson for the Spider-Man re-reboot. this is God damned travesty. JK was JJJ.

Now Marvel will cast Gary Oldman as Jameson. Apparently Ice Cube is rumoured for the role.

I can't wait for him to whip a drumstick at Batman's head.

Simmons still voices Jameson on the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon.
It'd be a greater comfort if anyone actually liked that show though.

He's a good actor and will undoubtedly do great, but I really was hoping for Bryan Cranston.
More importantly, as mentioned above, this puts to rest those rumors of Gordon already being dead in the timeline of Batman v Superman.

Ben Affleck as Batman J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon Jeremy Irons as Alfred
(Potentially) Jared Leto as Joker Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn Will Smith as Deadshot
The Batman solo franchise has got some MEGA talent on board right now.

You've also got the strong rumor that Scott Eastwood's mystery role is Dick Grayson. As for the casting here, I'm stoked. Any time JK plays it straight, he's incredible. Just close your eyes and hear his voice delivering Gordon lines. It's perfect.

I don't think Ice Cube would be quite as good as Simmons (since he was born for that role), but I really liked Cube as the boss on 22 Jumpstreet, and think if he put a lot of that into JJJ it could work. Also, since it was brought up, Gary Oldman would make a great JJJ. Dude's a chameleon that can morph his appearance and actions for damn near any role.

My only complaint with Ice Cube as JJ is that despite his age, he still seems too young and with the times to be believable as a newspaper editor. They'd have to really go against type with his wardrobe and dialogue to make it work.

Maybe they would fudge with things a little and just have him be the boss of the online division of the Daily Bugle, to make him a little more hip and current.
