Since we didn't have a tennis thread and this will probably be gone in a few days (as no one probably cares), tennis star Maria Sharapova came out to day and announced that she received a letter from the International Tennis Federation telling her that she failed the drug test. I read it's for a drug that she's been taking for years for medical reasons, that has only been in the banned substance list for a couple of months. I'm not condoning her actions as her and her training staff should have been more thorough in checking the list and sourcing alternatives but this COULD be down to stupidity rather than a desire to take a banned substance for an unfair advantage.

Well apparently the company said she should only take it for 4-6 weeks, not 10 years. So...I appreciate her coming out and taking ownership but you know details like this will eventually leak out and its gonna make her seem like she tried to put the lid on it and move on.

I hate the guy, but I'm with Andy Murray here.
"I find it strange that there's a prescription drug used for heart conditions and so many athletes competing at the top level of their sport would have that condition. That sounds a bit off to me."

I know there are not many tennis fans here but that sport has a legit serious doping problem. Even Lance Armstrong agrees with this. |
