Vince McMahon had to ask Jim Cornette who each member of the Midnight Express were when they had a WWF stint. It's because of this that Cornette thinks Midnight Express will never get a WWE HOF induction.

Big Show and Great Khali had a backstage fight where they ended up falling into a bunch of shit, confirmed by multiple wrestlers This remains my favorite. The news/newz item claimed Show was angry at Khali using his signature chop, confronted him backstage, and the two got into a fight where they lumbered around like kaiju until Show stepped in someone's gym bag and slipped. People were (understandably) super skeptical, saying it probably wasn't real news, or if it was, the story must have been exaggerated. And then years later Show talked about it on Jericho's podcast and the original story was pretty much 100% accurate.

If WCW stuff counts
Goldberg threw Evan Karagias over a Guardrail when he refused to shake his hand. ICP revealed it in an interview. Evan apparently backed out of shaking Goldberg's hand when he saw he had it in the crotch of his tights seconds before. When Evan suggested suing and said he'd use the ICP as witnesses, the ICP said "F*** no, we didn't see ANYTHING"
In the same boat, the ICP for one of their WWF Appearances, put their makeup on about three feet away from Taker and Austin who were talking over their spots for their match, and considered it a high honor.

According to a WWE Writer, HHH only cared about going over at one stage of his career (It's always up for debate if he still has that mindset or not), and flipped his shit when he found out he was losing by DQ on a Smackdown, which was changed to a Pinfall Victory later.

Vince McMahon was ready to fight Frank Shamrock for Chris Jericho if his Mania plans with Mickey Rourke didn't go well...
In his words "I'll take the Midget, you take Rourke"

I want to say that Joey Styles got the better of an altercation with JBL but although I've heard it said by a few people, would that be considered "true"?

Not exactly "Backstage", though Backstage had a hand in it. At King of the Ring, it was confirmed that the Sugar Glass that Shane McMahon was supposed to go through had not been put in prior to the match due to Staff fearing it'd melt from the Pyro
Which is why Kurt had to try multiple times to put Shane through it, Shane nearly broke his neck, and gave him a concussion on a nasty landing

The Bradshaw/Steve Blackman airport altercation. Has so-called tough guy Bradshaw ever come out on the positive end of a fight? (not counting the surprise cheap shotting of Blue Meanie & Public Enemy)

RVD thinking that Taz had too big of a chip on his shoulder back in ECW so he confronted him and told him to "pick a hand" to knock him out with and Taz backed down.

After injuring him an apparent third time, CM Punk confronted Ryback and said "Tell me you're Dumb as F*** or you're doing this on purpose" to which Ryback replied "I'm dumb as F***"

Paul Heyman was stunned to silence while watching Sami Zayn vs Cesaro's 2-3 Falls NXT Match, specifically when Zayn hit the Turnbuckle Tornado DDT.

Joey Styles nailing JBL in the face while overseas.
RVD asking Tazz to "pick a hand"
Angle beating Lesnar in a shoot wrestling match backstage
Kofi rolling around in a fight with Vince due to comments made on a flight
Miz being forced to dress in the hallway for months for spilling chicken on I believe HBK's bag
Candido quitting the WWF after people were doing coke and passing around Sunny all night (HBK and Ahmed Johnson involved)
Ric Flair and Mick Foley getting into a fight backstage at RAW in 2006. Flair started it by sucker punching Foley for calling him a terrible booker in his book.

The Miz had to dress in Bathrooms after eating Chicken over Chris Benoit's bag and getting Crumbs in it.
He did shoot promos about it later in his career but changed the wrestler to JBL for... obvious reasons.

The Bradshaw/Steve Blackman airport altercation. Funnily enough I've been watching Jan - April 2000 Raws lately and this has been referenced by both JR on commentary and Al Snow in backstage segments.
