So as we saw tonight, a whole bunch of old-school talents were inducted into the Hall Of Fame as what they called Legacy inductees. These are officially binding inductions, as all the talents named (Art Thomas, Ed Lewis, Frank Gotch, Georg Hackenschmidt, Mildred Burke, Lou Thesz and Pat O'Connor) have Hall Of Fame bios on WWE.com right now, which is about as official as it can get when there isn't an actual WWE Hall Of Fame building anywhere yet.
What do you think of this? I'm cool with it because it's a way of giving these pioneering talents their due respect, without it taking years to do if they did it the normal way due to their unofficial stance on deceased inductees. However, it does seem a bit unfair that their spotlight is somewhat rushed in contrast to the inductees brought in the traditional way. And how do you see it going forward? Historically significant international names like Rikidozan and El Santo were brought up as a possibility in the main thread, but this could also be a way of getting in regional promoters like a Paul Boesch or a Sam Muchnick as well.

I think it's a good idea, but there should be a cutoff date. If they worked for Vince Jr., then they should be recognized individually with a full fledged induction.

On one hand, I'm totally cool with it.
On the other hand, Lou Thesz deserves a full induction and it kinda sucks that he just got shoved in to a small video package.

It's a necessity for some of the early 1900s guys. We're talking about an entire generation that has no little-to-no footage outside of a few photographs, with no surviving fans or wrestlers from the era still around. It's a nice way to introduce who these guys were.
I will share the sentiment that Thesz deserved a full induction, however. He wrestled as late as 1990!

I would watch the hell out of a "Hall of Fame" Network series where each episode was a documentary about one or more of these wrestlers' careers. If you can't devote the time at the ceremony (understandable), run through the names there and pay your respects elsewhere.

I actually kind of think Lou would have preferred it this way. Lou never really had a beef with the WWF's style the way his contemporaries did, he was just very "meh" toward them. He saw it as something different than what he did and he just didn't have much use for it. Probably wouldn't have minded them honoring him as some sort of forefather more so than part of their shtick.

If you can't devote the time at the ceremony (understandable), run through the names there and pay your respects elsewhere. Absolutely. Give us an hour (or two) of the wrestler's biggest matches that WWE has access to, combined with in-studio narration from Okerlund, Hayes, Sting, Lawler, JR...whoever's available, and in between matches or segments, have the host reference important moments in each wrestler's career. It would be a good way to get WWE to present some rare matches without having to dedicate an entire upload of Old School to it. (Speaking of which, I would love to see more Old School and Prime Time uploaded this year...)

I love the idea, and other than the ceremony, they aren't differentiated in a different way. On WWE.com their bios say "WWE Hall of Fame 2016 inductee", not Legacy inductees
(Edit: OK, some of them say "Legacy" inductee in their bios!!)
I can see them using this method to induct, as some have said, some promoters and wrestlers who were significant but not known to a wider audience, like Japanese, Mexican, Canadian, European, British, Australian names. But it shouldn't come in place of a full induction for those expected to receive one.

I love the idea for people who you can't really do a proper induction for like a Hackenschmidt but yeah, Lou Thesz really should've gotten a real one. But hey, at least hook or crook he's in the Hall of Fame now where he belongs.

Yeah, I think frankly you'd need a genealogy study to find who to ask to get Hack a real induction, so this is better.

This injustice should be getting news coverage. Alert the Lou Thesz Press! Also, I thought a Legacy Induction was where no one wore pants and they all breathe heavily.

El Santo deserves an introduction for his defeat of the vampire women alone.

Mildred Burke absolutely deserved to go into any hall of fame before Moolah.

I like it, but I hope they drop the whole "Legacy" thing. We now have that, the celebrity and the Warrior recipient. I would rather them just be inducted under one umbrella, but it's still nice these people are now considered to be in there since they're all long long long overdue.

I was surprised that they didn't induct Paul Boesch last night. I'd guess that maybe they're waiting until WM comes back to Houston, but who knows when that'll be (soon please). Realistically they can do this at any time, but I want them to recognize his impact here in Houston and Texas in general.

I guess this paves the way for an Ivan Koloff and Stan Stasiak induction.
