Pats select OT Joe Thuney. I know nothing of Joe Thuney outside of his NFL.com draft profile but I like what I'm reading. He's a big boy (6-foot-5, 304 pounds) who can, and has, played any position on the offensive line. He was a center as a freshman, then converted to right tackle, right guard, and left tackle in 2013, then left guard in 2014, before settling in as the blindside offensive tackle last season. He's a three-year starter, so he has experience on the field, and he's coming to the Patriots at the perfect time, as they recently re-hired legendary offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia, who was known for getting the most out of the linemen during his previous tenure in New England. The Patriots needed to address their offensive line depth, because there were times last season when center Bryan Stork and tight end Michael Williams were playing right tackle and practice squad scrub Cameron Fleming and washout Marcus Cannon were being called on to protect Tom Brady's blind side. If there's to be another rash of injuries on the offensive line in 2016, they need depth to prevent anything like that from happening, because above all else, the reason the Patriots didn't win Super Bowl 50 is because they couldn't protect Tom Brady.

New England uses 3rd-round pick on NC St. QB Jacoby Brissett. Well that's certainly a fascinating pick. I can't really wrap my head around it, to be honest. The Patriots have many other needs they could have addressed with a third-round pick from the offensive line to the interior defensive line to running back. It could mean that the Patriots are willing to go into training camp with a bit of a quarterback competition between Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett if Tom Brady is forced to serve his horse s**t four-game suspension. (Which, if true, is a massive indictment on Garoppolo that he hasn't been able to take the reins since being drafted two years ago) It could also mean that the Patriots are ready to part with Garoppolo when his contract expires at the end of the 2016 season. (Which, again, is an indictment on him) Of course, this is all speculation, but it's a very odd pick given the needs the Patriots have at other positions.
