Tonight all excuses were blown to shreds. If Leicester can do it on a relatively small budget, any underachieving bigger club can do it. Villa, Liverpool, Arsenal, Newcastle etc...take note. At the end of the season after their last game, Arsene Wenger is going to do exactly what he usually does after his team chokes away another title. He'll give his usual 10 million excuses. All of which won't involve him taking responsibility, all of which will seem more hollow than the last after this season. Pelligrini as well. I mean....wow. The fact that Man City are scraping for 4th with that squad is proof that it's time for him to get moving as well.

Very happy for Claudio Ranieri. A genuinely sweet man who deserves to be a Premier League winning manager. Especially after some of the shit the pundits said about him at the start of the season: Phil Thompson:"They should really have signed his agent. He got all those jobs for him! I may be quite wrong, but I don't think he's ever won anything. He's been there, seen it, not done it, at all those places. Nigel Pearson did ever so well, and for Ranieri to get this job was quite incredible. I hope he does well, because he is a nice guy, but he's fortunate." Gary Lineker:"Claudio Ranieri? Really?" "Claudio Ranieri is clearly experienced, but this is an uninspired choice by Leicester. It's amazing how the same old names keep getting a go on the managerial merry-go-round." Harry Redknapp:"Ranieri is a nice guy, but he's done well to get the Leicester job. After what happened with Greece, I'm surprised he can walk back into the Premier League." Tony Cottee:"I'm astonished. I just didn't see this one coming. Obviously there have been many people linked to the job but as far as I'm aware, Ranieri wasn't one and for me, it is a strange appointment. They made a massive risk getting rid of Nigel Pearson who did such a good job football-wise towards the end of last season. To appoint Ranieri now, bearing in mind where he has been the last 10 years, is a huge gamble." Robbie Savage:"Ranieri, good manager but for me not Leicester. If you play for the Foxes you need someone you can relate to as a manager. O'Neill, Pearson are managers the players can relate to. I'd have gone back to O'Neill or Lennon. It will be a relegation battle whoever was manager. Big name, bad choice in my opinion. Time will tell. Hopefully I am wrong." Harry Redknapp. Known for such insightful analysis as "That's the corner flag."

I'm not a big soccer fan and I sure as hell know next to nothing about Premier League Soccer, but based on all the reporting on the story done in the states.....this is a real Miracle situation that will easily be adapted to a movie one day. It's also proof that any team can win anything (even the Cleveland Browns are more favored to win the Super Bowl than Leicester were to win the Premier League). So congrats to the supreme underdogs in making a miracle possible.

I said it in the football thread, but it's remarkably similar to the plot of Major League - an ageing coach who's had fleeting success in his career takes over a team of has-beens and never-will-bes, with a very small budget, who every expert and bookie considers heavy favourites to finish dead last (or next to), and even whose fans would consider a successful season as not finishing dead last, up against SIX Yankees-style teams, and they somehow win the whole f***ing thing.

Who had Riyad Mahrez as the PFA player of the year? Seriously, this is such a great story. And yeah this shows that if you think outside the box a little, you can win with a budget.

What an incredible story. I'm gutted Arsenal couldn't win the title this year but I can't begrudge Leicester this moment. Once in a lifetime story. I hope this gives other clubs with a similar standing belief that one day they can be Champions or at least mount a title challenge.
Mahrez was my choice for Player Of The Year and Leicester picked him up from the French Second Division. Kante as well who has been a midfield rock for them. Vardy came from non league football. Marc Albrighton was sold by Villa to Leicester he just be laughing right now. So many great stories.
And of course there's Ranieri. Written off at the start of the season (I predicted they would be bottom) he's been fantastic all year and seems a very nice guy and hasn't resorted to mind games or stupid statements. Sacked by Greece not too long ago, unfairly sacked by Chelsea 12 years ago, that same club helped him win the league and he even helped his successor from all those years ago Mourinho get the sack.
Every time they suffered a setback they bounced back (only 3 defeats, 2 to Arsenal which makes it more frustrating for me) and let nothing stop them.
Next year could be a very hard season for them as they enter the Champions League Group Stage and I hope they keep all their star players but they will always have this season. Possibly the greatest title triumph I'll see in my lifetime.

Arsenal fan since '94. Congratulations to Leicester, hell of a story. I had them nailed on ever since the Spurs-Arsenal 1-1 draw a little while back, really did see them faltering.
The power of momentum. Liverpool so nearly had it a couple seasons ago, the difference this time was that Leicester were damn good in defence too.
Congrats again to the champions!

I'm not a soccer guy, so I must ask; is there a playoff now or are they just the champions?

On a brighter note, I'm so happy for Leicester. I went crazy when Chelsea scored the second last night. This proves that anything is possible.

Saying that, I think Pearson is exactly what the prima donnas at Villa need. Nah, Aston Villa doesn't deserve anything nice. I'm hoping Newcastle kicks their asses before they go down to League One. That said, I'm really proud of Leicester City. They were the 1st first-time champion in nearly 40 years (Nottingham Forest was the last first-timer) & the first non-Big Four (Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, Manchester City) to win the Premier League in 20 years.

Such a great story. It will become the new "Miracle on Ice". There will be documentaries and movies made about this. It's everything that makes sports great.

This has been like the entire news in england this week.
Well, that, and the entire of Yorkshire thinking that a terror attack happened on our street because 2 Typhoon Jets broke the sound barrier over Wakefield.
