"Tommy Rich only got the NWA title because he blew Jim Barnett."
I'm assuming this one came about because everyone in the business knew Barnett was a homosexual and Rich's career faded afterward.
People forget Rich was a huge draw in Georgia, which meant WTBS. They forget Barnett was the promoter in Georgia at the time. I doubt he'd need any additional incentive to have his top draw win the world title.
Even setting that aside, Harley Race has said it was his idea to drop the belt to Rich because he was (pardon the pun) on fire. He had the pull to get the change approved, but only if he won it back before the tour ended, because they were not ready to go forward with Rich as champion.
Shortly after Rich dropped it back, one of the heels in Georgia cut a promo ripping Rich for losing it so quickly. Probably not the best idea.
For the next while, the belt was tied up with Harley and Dusty, the power structure in Georgia (and the NWA itself, for that matter) changed, and beginning with Starrcade '83, Jimmy Crockett pretty much owned the belt, so Rich never got near it again.
With many newer fans only knowing Rich as a mid card guy in late '80s and early '90s WCW and a comedy act in ECW, they wonder how the hell Tommy Rich got the belt, forgetting that he was in his early 20s (at a time when most guys were in their mid 30s or later before they got the belt), was the top draw in one of the most significant territories (and the only one at the time with national cable clearance), and looked like a major player in the years ahead.
It just didn't come through.

That Eric Bischoff had just one good idea throughout his career and that he killed WCW by not ending the nWo at Starrcade 1997.

I never really found the "Randy Savage/teenage Steph" stories funny. it's unnerving how many spout that one as if it's true. And to think that rumor got started by a drunk post in the Death Valley Driver Sleaze thread.

The original title of the Chris Von Erich novelty single "My Dad Can Whip Your Dad" was "My Dad Can Exploit Horrific Family Tragedy's For Financial Gain Better Than Your Dad" but that was consider both to on the nose and to wordy.

That Hulk Hogan never wrestled Rick Rude in a one on one match. He defended the title against him at least twice in January of 1988.

So not true. The Beatles would not hire Hogan because he has heat with them from the time he body slammed them at Shea Stadium, dude! Hulk Hogan was the first choice for the Paul McCartney lookalike position before William Campbell was chosen. The clue about "The walrus was Paul" was a reference to Hulk's mustache, you see. It doesn't say "I buried Paul" or "cranberry sauce" at the end of Strawberry Fields Forever but "Brother".
