If Stephen A is making that much, maybe he'll actually learn what football players are still on what team.

If Stephen A is making that much, maybe he'll actually learn what football players are still on what team. That's the 2nd worst thing about ESPN, aside from their hype over substance coverage. They act like their "personalities" actually know things about other sports. Stephen A also makes an ass of himself as a boxing or MMA analyst, or when even the shows I can stand talk about hockey or tennis, which they know nothing about which completely turns off someone who actively follows those sports like myself. Albeit LeBatard freely admits he knows nothing about hockey. I'd rather you took that approach than pretend to know anything on your way to yet another hot take.

The extent of LeBatard's coverage of hockey is letting Mike or Roy of the Shipping Container talk about it on the radio show (both are big hockey fans) or find a guy with a vaguely Latino-sounding name who isn't actually Latino so Papi can make them Latino and sing their praises on Highly Questionable.
Speaking of LeBatard, Chris Bosh is moonlighting as HQ co-host for the second time today and is really good at it.

Thank god Max Kellerman is on board for boxing now
They took the stupid approach of he is enough of a fan to talk about MMA and boxing in regards to Stephen A so he's sitting there debating with people like Tony Atlas and it comes off like i'm watching Hot Take at night instead of an actual discussion

But stop shoehorning the guy into everything. You already have him on a show, and constantly featured on SC. You don't need to interrupt leBatard show to simulcast his takes, or have segments on the afternoon block where they all discuss his opinions. It comes off almost cult-y. Stephen A is our ESPN diety. I kinda hate ESPN doing a 180 on boxing coverage once they paid TopRank. Now they act like it's a big deal when it really sucks. And when it was still awesome in the 2000s with B Hop still amazing, Morales/Barrera, Pacquiao/Morales, Felix Trinidad, Sugar Shane, De La Hoya, most of Mayweather's prime, etc And they acted like it barely existed then. And of course, Stephen A looks like a douche when he argues with Teddy Atlas. That's like me arguing with Bill Belichick over defensive schemes; only one of them really knows what they're talking about in the conversation.

Oh they are 100% hypcrites because they got Tim Bradley, Ward, Kellerman all on their network to give them a big fight feel when before they was just throwing Teddy Atlas there and all he did was ramble
Stephen A is a funny personality but his expertise is basketball so shoehorn him in that all you want but talking about shit like MMA and Hockey in which he is just a casual fan is too much for me
But they got to justify that $10 million despite First Take still being their number 1 show I believe and him having his own radio show

Atlas is good when you have a segment where he can breakdown fights or fighters. You want pre-taped Atlas so you can edit him down to his really good points. Him on live shows is just hard to get a word in edgewise.

Atlas is like Roy Jones, I can't stand to hear them live because they stutter and stumble but put them in a controlled place and they are good.
They should hire Bernard Hopkins as a alternate for whenever Ward or Bradley can't commentate or Kellerman as well. Have a nice 4-5 man rotation to keep going

I've always loved Hopkins' perspective. Whether about technical boxing or life in general. Not many people have turned it around like he has.

ESPN the Magazine is ending its run in September with its annual Body Issue.
Can't say I'll miss it. The darn thing started out as an edgy attempt to copy Sports Illustrated (yet another thing that's gone by the wayside), but was just too big and unwieldy to work with, and before you know it, the magazine stopped talking about reactionary sports (i.e. SI and Sporting News) and was more about opinion pieces that, once in a while, maybe, just maybe, previewed something coming up.

Once again, something that was once informative and fun, has become neither. I had a subscription when it first came out. I remember it having Michael Jordan on the cover A LOT, the cool breakdown of athletes, like J.D. Drew and NFL draft prospects. The Dan Patrick interview was fun on the last page. But yeah, why did it have to be so damn big? The commercials for it were funny like the SportsCenter commercials.

sports.yahoo.com/rachel-nichols-maria-taylor-michelle-beadle-espn-nba-countdown-155102371.htmlDidn't even know Beadle was getting replaced. Remember when she was the fresh girl in ESPN with a big future? Yeah, that was 10 years ago and no more of that. I like Nichols as a pick because she always has a great personality. Unfortunately, Jalen Rose is coming back and I find him complete garbage. Billups is moving to commentating on TV which for full time and Paul Pierce is not coming back to do the countdown which is the best thing. Wonder who they bring in to replace those two. Hopefully, it isn't stupid ass Ryan Hollis or dick rider Richard Jefferson. For Beadle, looks like she could be done. They are paying her $5 mill a year and they say she isn't committed so yeah she has no role in ESPN really. She failed on Get Up and now she is done with NBA Countdown so idk what is next for her but they said for NBA they want more Woj like people who is in it 24/7

I never "got" Beadle. No Pierce is unquestionably an upgrade. The Jump is one of the better things going for ESPN these days. Nichols is killing it, and Amin in a more professional setting comes off as less of a dweeb.
I would not mind it at all if ESPN cycled in some new female talent if Beadle leaves and Fagan having left and Mina seemingly preferring to dabble in everything rather than being nailed down to one project.

Rachel Nichols and Woj are far and away the best people at ESPN for NBA-related content. I like Beadle, but Nichols is a distinct upgrade. No more Paul Pierce is an upgrade.
Maria Taylor's pretty good, too, though I've only seen her doing sideline reports and beat reporting. Her main hosting gig is in a sport I couldn't give a rat's ass about, so I dunno how good she is in that.

Beadle was that fun personality that wasn't trying to fake it when she was at her most popular with Cowherd. She knew her shit. Then she left for NBC to do nothing for a few years and came back to ESPN and really never had that spark she had before. She tried to be too quirky and animated and it comes off more so annoying now especially when you haven't changed yourself since you became popular I'm guessing they move Pierce to the midnight hour. I thought Cassidy Hubbarth would get more love as she is a good host and knows her shit but can't complain about Nichols. Keep Amin on The Jump. He has a tendency to go into stupid mode and if anything he would turn into another Bill Simmons (with more credentials) if you put him on. ESPN just really needs to redo their whole NBA coverage. Breen is fine but Jackson and Van Gundy are the equivalents of Jerry The King Lawler collecting a paycheck and new blood news to put in the NBA Finals. Give Breen others to work with

Rachel will obviously bring credibility since her face is well known and she has been in NBA circles for a long time. I'm guessing they obviously want Woj for these Countdown games but most likely he is too busy for that. They need two more people to fill the crew with Rachel and Jalen but their is no real obvious choices

Just put Breen with Burke and call it a day.

Mike Breen's the regular PBP for the Knicks so he isn't always available. But there's gotta be better than Marc Jackson.

Putting Billups in there permanently is a good thing but he's basically playing his cards out until he gets an NBA job. Ryan Rucco is also a good PBP guy who should be used more. Michael Kay injury for the Yankees has shown how really good he is and I like the pairing of him and Chauncey last year in the season. Doris should be getting more work with Breen though If last season is any indication, we only get Jackson/Breen/Van Gundy combo for the Xmas game and playoffs. Van Gundy does better when not around Mark but Jackson is still trash by himself

Which is another reason why NBA's coverage is superior IMO. At least give me a few primetime match-ups that aren't mute-worthy.
