Michael Kay told a good story about Pedro on his radio show today. Howard Bryant was a rookie sportswriter filling in on the Oakland A's beat and wrote about Dennis Eckersley giving up a game-losing home run. The paper's headline, which Bryant wasn't responsible for, was "Eckersley blows another save." Tony LaRussa was killing Bryant in front of the press pool because of that headline and then Pedro stands up and says to LaRussa "Hey, Tony! Lighten up! You know we don't write the headlines! Give the kid a break!" and that shut LaRussa right up.

As I said in the NBA thread, extremely stupid on her part
It's white privilege at its finest. You don't get the right to complain about someone getting hired over you because ESPN wants to diversify. Even if you didn't mean it as complaining, it comes across as massive sour grapes because they picked her over you

ESPN is basically the WWE. Everything they do in the name of social justice is insincere and strictly to make themselves look good. So I kinda see Rachel's point even if I don't agree with her. ESPN is 100% pushing a race agenda and has for a while. So while Taylor could be better than Nichols, ESPN has done enough virtue signaling to cast doubt on all their decisions. Which ultimately is really unfair to Maria so I can see why people are sticking up for her. The fact that ESPN had Perk and RJ speak on Rachel's behalf on the Jump gave big time "Vince says the N Word and the camera pans to the black guy so everyone knows he approved it" vibes. ESPN knows how to play the game.

Like I said on the NBA thread, Amin Elhassan and Jemele Hill, two former ESPN employees, had a really good discussion on this recently. It was pretty nuanced and addressed the real culprit in this: ESPN's terrible employment practices and how they treat talent of color compared to white talent.
Jemele also had a good line about this situation while also drawing upon her own experiences with ESPN Corporate doing SC6 with Michael Smith: "ESPN wants Black faces, but they don't want Black voices."

Tho Jemele shares some blame in her and Mike getting ousted from their ESPN spot as well

Jemele Hill is good at one thing, getting jobs despite awful ratings and decline if numbers anywhere she goes.

Everyone has talked about the Stephen A. Smith crap about Ohtani, but I just saw this and look at the title of the topic. First Take is scripted. They find topics, SAS debates one side and Max debates the other. That's the whole point of the stupid show. But digging in deeper, the title of that topic suggests that it was created by the producers of the show. SAS probably said what he felt, but why hasn't the ESPN/First Take producers gotten any heat for this? If that's the title of the segment, and the format of the show calls for both guys to argue different points, then someone would have had to argue Ohtani was bad for the sport in order for that topic/segment to make any sense for the show. SAS should get the heat for this, he's been a xenophobe/bigot forever and deserves to get called out on it, but I like how ESPN slithered out of there and let SAS take all the blame when they likely deserve a piece of it as well. What a stupid show and a POS network.

ESPN is really good at that: letting its personalities get the blame for things they're ultimately responsible for. If he wasn't so valuable to the company, I'm sure Pitaro and Norby would be fine with letting SAS go and replacing him with Mike Greenberg.

Typical ESPN They shouldn't have cut Pablo and Bomani show. Also Keith Olbermann is an ass but they f***ed his show up too when they changed it from 1 hour to 30 mins
