LeBatard probably will talk about this on their show tomorrow He said today he didn't want to talk about it but that he hates the people taking so much pleasure in people losing their jobs.

This is a dark day in the history of televised sports in America. Not only have dozens of people lost their jobs, but ESPN - the largest sports network in the nation, the channel that is as ubiquitous as the sports they cover - has decided that "takes" are more important than "news."
Look at the people they've laid off. On the unemployment line are some of ESPN's finest reporters. Again, for emphasis, reporters. Not analysts. ESPN today has effectively become The Huffington Post of sports, where they are going to do minimal reporting of their own, but instead will focus on aggregating content and using it to drive discussions on their programming.
What these layoffs tell me is that ESPN is hitching its wagons to talking heads like Stephen A. Smith, Max Kellerman, Dan LeBatard, and Bomani Jones spewing nonsense, takez, and "controversy" about the day in sports rather than providing worthwhile insight into Major League Baseball with Jim Bowden or Jayson Stark, college football with Brett McMurphy, college basketball with Len Elmore, pro basketball with Ethan Strauss, auto racing with Jerry Punch, or legal expertise with Roger Cossack.
It's a shame, but we're all to blame for it. Instead of focusing our attention on sports news that actually mattered, we all took the bait of the wildest or wackiest things that Skip Bayless or Colin Cowherd said and ESPN figured that was the direction that sports analysis was going. And today's layoffs further emphasized that.

Yeah, if there was a clearer example of ESPN becoming essentially sports TMZ, I don't know what it would be

WOW....
so ESPN shit the bed drastically overpaying for rights to games, combined with chord cutting and let go of a lot talented people --- but it looks like those who thought overpaying for games rights stay unless I missed something

Yes, that's Billion with a B.

With Stark gone, I wonder how much longer Buster and Tim will be there. They've gotta be looking at MLB Network.

The same Jim Bowden that skimmed bonuses from foreign players while GM of the Nats, and provides the most generic/awful baseball commentary humanly possible?

The new Sportscenter anchors. That's a disgrace to the grand six week Broadcast Journalism legacy of Lance Catamaran in Utica, New York.

The worst part about this is none of these cuts make a dent in anything. Like how much is Roger Cossack making compared to the rights fees and the loss from cord cutting.
Meanwhile Mike Greenberg who has never said anything interesting in his entire career makes 6.5 million dollars a year

Why didn't they fire them AFTER the draft?
Seems like all you are doing is scrambling at this point.

Britt McHenry (She's working the NFL draft but that's her last assignment), Raul Ibanez, and Dallas Braden among the latest layoffs. They're gutting Baseball Tonight.
