Tomorrow is the last episode of The Sports Reporters Once Saunders died the writing was on the wall Yeah. I know Mike Lupica and John Saunders were really good friends and all. And it's great that Lupica wanted to carry to torch for his friend after his tragic death. But Mike Lupica is no John Saunders in demeanor or ability to carry a show like he did. Sports Reporters just never felt right in his hands. I will miss the show because it was a great Sunday morning TV show that provoked genuinely interesting and thoughtful discussion between respected peers instead of being another Hot Take City where people talked at and past each other. If I'm up early enough to watch the show tomorrow, I'll do it for my memories of the show's legacy and in honor of John's memory.

At this point it might be easier to list the folks that are actually still there.

More? Geez, why wouldn't you fire them all in one fell swoop and release a list to the press (or whatever is left of them, as well.) Making this a long, drawn-out thing is just going to make ESPN look worse. But maybe they also fired their PR guy.

Meanwhile, ESPN has agreed to give Stephen A. Smith a contract extension & double his salary.
I... Would not be surprised if this was leaked in the future. Since when did ESPN start aping FS1?

It's funny at the end of the day ESPN rather pay Stephen A Smith 6 million than to pay Skip close to the 8 mill he gets from FS1. Then again Smith does have a radio show as well while Skip seems to only get paid from undisputed. That was a bad investment on FS1 part.

Again, why aren't the people who decided to over pay for the rights to games getting the axe?

Stugotz tore into Cowherd and by extension Whitlock as well over the ESPN firings It's amazing how one of the most dishonest people ever was able to call out Cowherd and Whitlock for being dishonest and not only not look like a complete hypocrite but also be entirely right. And RIP Katherine Berman. Absolutely terrible how she got killed.

And RIP Katherine Berman. Absolutely terrible how she got killed. Stugotz even said that Whitlock had beef with Cowherd and is only playing nice with Colin because they have a show together. Whitlock is basically trying to say Stu is lying but he has no reason to. Colin can speak all the shit he wants about how he predicted this but Stugotz is right in the fact that ESPN still stands while Colin is no longer there

Anyone paying attention to the changing media landscape the past few years could've seen this coming, but it just has next-to-nothing to do with the reasons Cowherd, Whitlock, and other FS1 puppets say. If anything, FS1 has it even worse than ESPN in terms of overall market share and their own declines in subs because of cord-cutting and more selective cable packages. It's just that they never paid hand-over-fist for insane deals with any of the big 4 leagues. Or reached the same dizzying heights that ESPN reached.
Though I can tell you what would save ESPN: Stugotz on Around the Horn! Make it happen ESPN!
