Even if Ambrose used his Twitter page, the guy known as a Lunatic is the only one of The Shield not to apologize for anything.

It's weird that a hug kept a man off of WrestleMania, but flunking a piss-test still means you wrestle the Pay-Per-View, and get a Championship match upon return. While I think Reigns should be forgiven at some point, there should be something to punish THE GUY that was groomed for 3 years to become THE GUY, and then as THE GUY not stay away from whatever he was caught using.

From what I was able to dig up, he was never suspended in 2007, because while his name popped up in the Signature Pharmacy Scandal, he had already been suspended for it in 2006. Regardless, it was wrong then, and it is wrong now.

Also, for what it's worth, he was literally handed the title at the beginning of the show, he got beat clean for it by Triple H, and only barely won it back AFTER Triple H had a defense against Umaga. Not exactly what I'd call a stellar night for Orton.

Does the WWE have an official list of what guys can take and what they can't that is constantly updated? Do they have an in-house physician who is in charge of what they can take according to a wrestler's ailment?

Or do they just tell guys, "Don't take anything that is illegal. And you'll find out if it is illegal after we test you."

Yes, there is an official list, I believe it is on the corporate site. They do have company doctors (you might remember that one is currently suing Punk and Cabana) and they have an independent firm in charge of the Wellness stuff as well. They don't really have control over what the wrestlers take though and the wrestlers can use their own physicians as well. The wrestlers are responsible for what they put in their bodies, if say Roman takes a supplement, he must make sure it doesn't contain something on the banned list.

Right. Just like in regular sports the I didn't know what I was taking doesn't fly anymore.

Sharapova tried to play that card after she got suspended and was able to get a reduced suspension but she still has a 2 year ban.

If I were in the company I'd send the doctor every pill, supplement, protein powder, whatever, I'd send it to the doctors to get it approved first before taking it. I wouldn't be taking any risks at all with this stuff.

I was thinking that this was the case. But why is this not the thing that isn't micromanaged with a finetooth comb?

An idea I farted out to write Roman off TV is to get one of the Uso's into Roman's attire, have his hair covering his face and only have long shots. Then some sort of injury angle. If WWE kept this hush-hush they might have been able to do this.

Idea similar to an old wrestling urban legend that Kerry Von Erich portrayed The Ultimate Warrior during house shows in 1990/91.

Eh, wrestling's full of instances where one guy goes down for whatever reason and another steps up to take his place. Whether it's Steve Austin winning KOTR in 1996 due to HHH being punished for the MSG Incident, Ryback taking Cena's place in a couple of matches against Punk and ending up getting pretty damn over as a result, or Dean Ambrose becoming WWE WHC because Roman failed a Wellness test. That's the name of the game when you're in WWE.

Meltzer went in on this during this week's WON.

Sources with knowledge of the situation noted to us that this was a recent violation. WWE has at times gotten positive test results and waited months at times to announce and suspend the particulars. Sometimes it has to do with investigating and allowing the talent the chance to explain their actions. Sometimes it has to do with certain timing issues. It is not against company policy, and has been done regularly when key talent violates the policy, to tie up storylines before announcing and starting suspensions. While few knew, we know of people who knew by late last week of the failure and that, unless they were to violate policy and ignore the result because of the star power of Reigns, he would be suspended shortly. One could argue this as a validation of the policy because with the exception of Cena, if anyone was going to be protected, Reigns would be that person.

The call made by Vince McMahon for Seth Rollins to cleanly pin Roman Reigns and win the title, and the title then going to Dean Ambrose, for the 6/18 Money in the Bank show was a late change. While there may be only two people who know conclusively whether that late change was made because of the failed test or it was just a coincidence, it was also noted to us that when exactly would Vince McMahon beat Roman Reigns that clean in that manner otherwise?

The question now becomes what does this all mean? WWE has de-pushed people in the past based on failed drug tests, but when it comes to top talent, with people like Randy Orton and Jeff Hardy coming to mind, if they perceive somebody as main event level or over at main event level, they aren’t going to hold them back. But neither Orton nor Hardy was ever the face of the company, even if Hardy was the company’s most popular performer at one point. Still, it would be hard to believe that Reigns would come right off a suspension and regain the title. But there are also likely to be two titles in play by that time. One idea that was brought up to us, which was a fan idea, was to do a finish where Reigns and Rollins both beat Ambrose simultaneously and end up on different brands, giving legitimacy to the two championships. But in the original plans, Reigns and Rollins were to be the two top stars on the Raw brand, although all of that can change at a moment’s notice.

Plus, the push of Reigns at that level has been a failure. The fans have rejected him at a level that Cena never faced. While Cena got heavy boos on television and PPVs in certain markets, he was almost always universally cheered at house shows, and his shows, with higher ticket prices, drew larger crowds in comparison with the shows he wasn’t on, whether he was champion or not. With Reigns, he is now getting booed at house shows, vehemently booed on television, and his arena shows, as champion, are not drawing well. But the company believes he’s marketable in the big picture more than anyone else, hence the push, and there’s also the belief that nobody else in the company will do any better, aside from Cena, given the same push. Neither Orton nor Hardy were ever promoted in the way Reigns was, particularly building the next generation of charity work with him as the face.
