Looks like Al Horford is signing with either the Wizards or Celtics sometime tonight. I'd sign with Boston. The coach is solidified, you have Isaiah Thomas and some nice roleplayers...

Ryan Anderson to Houston, 4/80.
Was really hoping the Kings would have thrown money at him. He would have been perfect to stretch the floor for Cuz.
20 mil for a floor stretching role player (albeit a really really good one) is a bit excessive though (as are nearly every single contract handed out these offseasons)

Well, this is how free agency looks with the new salary cap. Sam Presti is doing the right thing. He traded Ibaka for a strong package instead of paying him this type of money to stay beyond next season. The smart GM's will follow that strategy, because I can't imagine teams improving by paying non-stars that much money even with more money to spend. The problem is Presti is going to have to face this song and dance soon. He can only penny pinch for so long: Oladipo is on the last year of his contract, if he balls out, that's probably an $80 million contract. Adams is getting the max, so 100 million+. Durant and Westbrook, if they stay long term will get 30 million per year. Kanter is making $18 million Those 5 guys alone will probably count for about $120 million. Yeah it will be tough to keep everyone, but teams are going to have to decipher between the "must keeps" and the guys they can replace cheaply (with draft picks, 2nd round picks, etc). For example, as a Raptors fan, I see the logic behind overpaying DeRozan. He's not a great player, but he's good enough to where it would be next to impossible for them to replace him via free agency or the draft, at least right away. On the flip side, Biyombo is replaceable, and they used their two first round picks on big men with specific skills to replace him. You're right it will be tough to do in this landscape, but if you're paying $20-25m to mediocre talent, it's not going to help you win many games, even if the % of the cap is more important than the salary at this point.

Kings do something... Good? Arron Afflalo on not a bad contract. Hopefully this ends the Dion Waiter talk. Afflalo is a better player for the Kings (which I'm assuming is your fav team) than Dion Waiters. Plus, if Afflalo is awful, you're not locked into a bad contract. The most significant number isn't 11-12 mil, it's the 2-year. Looks like Bismark Biyambo is heading to Orlando. Bismack Biyombo... Why? First, I think he was vastly overrated headed into the free agency period. He dominated Miami when Whiteside went down and there's nobody behind Whiteside (not to mention Bosh wasn't around). Biyombo bullied, and then he was alright against the Cavaliers in the ECF. I had high expectations for Biyombo when he was drafted to Charlotte (my hometown team - I'm a Heat fan), but he never panned out. Honestly, flash in the pan. What did Biyombo get? I'd imagine he got overpaid... But the real question is why he is in Orlando. Don't they have Nikola Vucevic? Perhaps he knows he isn't good enough to start in this league. Ryan Anderson to Houston, 4/80. Was really hoping the Kings would have thrown money at him. He would have been perfect to stretch the floor for Cuz. 20 mil for a floor stretching role player (albeit a really really good one) is a bit excessive though (as are nearly every single contract handed out these offseasons) Ryan Anderson is nice, but that's what Houston does, is overpay for nice players. But I agree, a player like Ryan Anderson only makes sense if you have a dominant center inside. Pairing with a Whiteside, Howard, Vucevic, Valanciunas, Jordan, etc, is what the Stretch 4 tends to do, and when those work out best... But oh well, we'll see what happens.

Al Horford is heading to the Celtics Horford gets four years and $113M. Right decision. Boston was a playoff team with Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, and company with an emerging head coach. Al Horford is that big splash everyone wanted, and though it doesn't change Cleveland's reign on top of the East, it's a move to help close the gap. A LOT of money, and probably overpaid for Horford, but at least they got him.

Like that Boston got Horford. While I'm a Nets fan, my favorite college team is Butler, so I like seeing Brad Stevens do well. This only improves their chances out east. They still aren't Cleveland, but they should be neck and neck with Toronto as the 2nd best team in the East right now.

I don't really think Horford makes them much better, maybe they win a round.
However I remember before the playoffs were even over it was said that Durant wanted to play with Horford and signing Horford could help the Celtics land KD. I know wishful thinking, bit it was out there.

There is talk of a Rudy Gay-Monta Ellis swap, which works from a salary perspective, but I can't say it makes a lot of sense for the Pacers.
They probably still have to move Ellis, though.

If you're the Mavs, you might as well offer Barnes the max. Nobody else has decided to join the team & you've got money to spend anyways

Speaking of the Pacers, Ian Mahinmi is headed to the Wizards. Four years and $64M.

And if it IS something... Rudy Gay for Monta should be an easy no-go. Rudy isn't a star, but he's a solid piece to have, especially on his pre-expended cap contract. You can't give him away.
