That's right, it's Monday night again and that means ONLY one thing... It's a special Independence Day edition of RAW, coming to you live from Columbus, Ohio. And in a rare instance of forward planning, three bouts have been announced for the show ahead of time. It's almost like the promotion is actually... doing some promotion.
Our lead contest will pit WWE Champion Dean Ambrose against WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz in non-title singles competition. The Lunatic Fringe came out on top in this exact bout on SmackDown last week, but it appears that the A-Lister wants a rewrite of the script tonight. And while Miz doesn't yet have a challenger for his IC belt, Ambrose will have to keep watch for one of his two challengers at Battleground in Seth Rollins, who's surely cooking up a scheme to get the upper hand leading into his triple threat title match at Battleground against Ambrose and Roman Reigns. Will The Architect show his hand tonight?
It's only fitting that on the United States's birthday that the championship that bears it's name and colours will be on the line. In a rematch from Money In The Bank, Rusev defends the gold against Titus O'Neil. O'Neil has had a strange year so far, combining a strong win/loss record with a bizarre disciplinary suspension that led to him missing WrestleMania, but he now finds himself a three count away from his first singles title in WWE. However, he'll have to overcome a re-energised Bulgarian Brute, who is near his early career form after a series of demolishing wins over the likes of Kalisto, Sin Cara and Zack Ryder. Rusev made it personal by insulting O'Neil's children after their previous match at MITB, and the red mist that resulted from it could lead to O'Neil's triumph or his downfall. Which will it be on RAW?
The third bout scheduled for tonight could be one of the more unique contests we'll see in 2016, as eight of America's finest will take on eight international superstars in elimination tag team competition. No participants have been announced as this thread goes live, but one figures that there may be several rivalries coming to the surface here. We know that Sheamus and Apollo Crews are always willing to throw down, but the likes of Cesaro and Alberto Del Rio or even Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn may have to show restraint tonight to ensure victory for their team, should they be enlisted to participate. Tune in to see how this will play out.
John Cena has had his hands full with The Club since his return to active competition a few weeks back. The outside interference of Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson led to AJ Styles defeating him at Money In The Bank, while just last week he was laid out on the ramp with a brutal Magic Killer. Could tonight be the night Cena begins the fightback towards another bout with Styles?
In women's competition, things are finally starting to pick up again after a bit of a quiet run after WrestleMania. Sasha Banks has put herself right at the forefront as a possible challenger for Charlotte's WWE Women's Championship, and tonight could see The Boss seal the deal and claim #1 Contender status. Meanwhile, Becky Lynch showed last week that she has had all she could stands, and she could stands no more, forgoing a singles bout to lash out at former ally Natalya in response to two beatings since their fallout at Money In The Bank. How will things progress for the ladies tonight?
And in the tag team division, The New Day may have poked the buzzards nest once too many times with their unflattering impression of The Wyatt Family last week. With Bray Wyatt's lambs of destruction Braun Strowman and Erick Rowan annihilating a pair of local competitors on SmackDown, and Wyatt himself showing a strange influence over Xavier Woods, it might take more than a fake beard and a lantern of unicorn horns for the W... W... E... World... Tag... Team... Champions to gain a measure of ascendancy before their inevitable showdown. Will we see rocking or falling for the positively-powered trio tonight?
All that, and a whole lot of star-spangled banter from the guys and girls of FAN, TONIGHT on RAW!
