BROKEN Matt Hardy is this week's guest on Talk Is Jericho! I'll give it a listen later tonight...Should be awesome! I hate when wresters give interviews in character or try to maintain kayfabe in any way (the Wyatt call-in on TIJ was particularly cringeworthy), but dammit, Matt better be in all his Broken splendour!

Agreed with others that Matt is essentially a modern wrestling genius for developing this absurd character and turning it into something that's actually making him money and getting more buzz for both himself and TNA.

I'm only like 10 minutes in, but this is f***ing hilarious. He has put so much thought into this character, it's truly brilliant EDIT: And he just made a Jeff Harvey reference. This is glorious

Podcast was pretty funny, you could really hear him trying to dig deep within himself to maintain throughout the whole thing. I really liked Jericho letting Matt know how much everyone in the WWE was buzzing about it, and I agree with Matt's assessment that this is a good thing to learn from. I feel like Matt's excelling in the one place that many wrestlers are lacking in creating money characters/feuds for himself. Lots of talented in ring guys but I think the stuff people really remember are the feuds and characters like CM Punk vs. Raven that was spanning independent leagues all over the place, Kevin Steen and S.C.U.M., or his feud with Jericho, the Young Bucks and their self parodying "spot monkey" characters. In-ring talent is great but I have a much higher value for guys who have a creative vision for themselves too.

It'll be downright criminal when MEEK MA-HAN eventually rehires Matt and Brother Nero and they'll only get to be the beloved nostalgia tag team from the Attitude Era. This is the most I've been interested in Matt since the MVP feud in 2007-2008.

I mean, the guy has to realize that if he doesn't want to be below The Ascension in a year's time, he's got to keep the act relevant.

At least The Dudley Boyz actually win a match once in a while.

Broken Matt on TIJ is a thumbs-down for me.
I love the character, but I hate it when you have these things that are designed for nerds & not marks or smarks and the guys refuse to break kayfabe. I'm curious into learning about how Matt came up with this deranged individual. Besides, didn't Jericho learn the hard way what happens when you decide to be your own gimmick in real life?

I finally watched the match. It is the first new wrestling match I have watched in over a year.
My assessment?
The wrestling was terrible. I think Matt might legitimately be broken since he seems to have way too much trouble moving around to still be an active wrestler.
Does that mean I was not entertained? HELL NO. I laughed my ass off throughout the whole thing. The pre-match skits, the overall campiness, the reality TV show camerawork and background music, the stupid as hell stunts, the swerve, the ending, etc.; it was all wonderously and unerringly entertaining.
It isn't something they can do all of the time, but running with the character of Broken Matt might legitimately be their first money-making gimmick in years (though it sounds as though it might be making the Hardy's even more money on the independent circuit than in TNA, but whatever).
Something just occurred to me. Does anyone else remember the promo Matt shot right after he turned on Jeff the last time in WWE? I was there live and thought it was a pretty solid promo. I then saw what they aired and it was the same promo with dramatic background music. It was totally out of character for the WWE to do that and I was confused as to why it was done. Now, it seems abundantly obvious to me that the music was Matt's idea and for some fevered reason they let him run with it.
