Ok....Round 9 To survive in the Music Industry, you have to have some sort of staying power with some sort of audience. For this round, choose an artist who has 10+ years in the music business. HOWEVER, there is a twist here: Must be after their 10th Year. I'll use myself as an example: if I made my 1st album in 2003, that means my 10th year is 2013, so any of my songs from 2013 on qualify for this round Songs Due by Friday Afternoon

Procedural question. In the case of the artist who started in a group/band and then launched a successful singles career, does that time start from the first group album or the first single's album?

First Group Album, as A) Not only was that their first dip into the music industry but B) Early band albums could have been helping mold their later sound Example: My group, The 3 Bears, started in 1991, broke up in 1995, and I released "Stir the Honey" in 1997....that means I was still active for 6 years. 2001 onwards would count for me in this case

A little rationale behind my pick: When I think "road trip," I think "classic rock radio." Even better if it's something you can sing along to. I'm glad to see my line of thinking paid off.

Well that's certainly unexpected. I was the meanie that gave it a relatively low score. Eh, no biggie. I only expected it to do well enough to keep me out of the bottom half. Didn't expect to find myself up top.

Rankings. Comments:
1. Bon Iver - Minnesota, WI 2. Chuck Berry - No Particular Place to Go 3. The Beta Band - Dry The Rain 4. Counting Crows - Hanginaround 5. Willie Nelson - On The Road Again 6. Phillip Phillips - Home 7. The Muppets - Movin' Right Along 8. Tonic - If You Could Only See 9. Steve Miller Band - Rock 'n Me 10. Toad The Wet Sprocket - Walk On The Ocean 11. Everything But The Girl - Missing 12. Julian Casablancas - 11th Dimension 13. Lindsey Buckingham - Holiday Road
The Beta Band - Dry The Rain
A pretty nice and relaxing song with a somewhat old-school, Beatles-like sound. Really like the guitar on this too. I reckon it would indeed make a nice road trip song, you can pretty much imagine a warm sunset and wind in your hair when you listen to it.
Bon Iver - Minnesota, WI
Very, very good choice. It ticks a lot of the same boxes as "Dry The Rain" but in ùy<opinion does it even better and creates an amazing psychedelic trip.
Chuck Berry - No Particular Place to Go
Going for a much more old-school take on road songs, are we? This one conjures up images of one of those diners on the side of the road you see a lot of in films set in 50's America and I gotta say, it really works, especially for this round's theme. It's a very good example of old-school Rock n' Roll that really shows how the genre became so popular.
Counting Crows - Hanginaround
A very interesting choice in that it has some of that rock feel that you indeed expect from road trip songs but it also almost has a ska punk thing going on as well which reminds me a lot of the stuff I listened to in the 90's and early 2000's. Needless to say, stuff like that speaks to me a lot.
Everything But The Girl - Missing
It takes a lot to make me genuinely like this sort of the song as there are a lot that sound very close to it and unfortunately, this one doesn't manage to rise above the crowd. It's okay but it feels like a random fairground song.
Julian Casablancas - 11th Dimension
Points for originality but unfortunately, it doesn't quite work for me. It feels like there is potential as I really like the melody, or at least some of the elements, but the whole thing feels rather disjointed and haphazard. It never seems to form a coherent whole and so it's hard to really connect to it.
Lindsey Buckingham - Holiday Road
Yep, that certainly does sound like a movie soundtrack and not in a good way. It very much feels like a song that's made solely to be background noise and not really noticeable because there's going to be dialogue over it, which probably also acounts for how repetitive it is, which unfortunately makes it rather tedious to me.
The Muppets - Movin' Right Along
It's hard to not love the Muppets so of course I'm having a lot of fun with this song. That said, you had to know ou weren't going to win with that one. Like I said, it's fun, but it's just fun whereas several other picks in this round that go far beyond just being fun.
Phillip Phillips - Home
This one ended up being better than I expected based on the beginning of the song and it is rather enjoyable, but I still think it comes up short of other titles in this round. A decent effort, but needed more audacity.
Steve Miller Band - Rock 'n Me
Some good old-school Rock 'n Roll right there but as I listened to the song, I noticed something strange. At first I found it really catchy and was really into it but as it went on it started losing me as it gets rather repetitive and it feels like it's building up to something that never comes.
Toad The Wet Sprocket - Walk On The Ocean
This just didn't do anything for me. I guess there's nothing obviously wrong with it but it was just kind of dull to me. I don't dislike it, it's just kind of there.
Tonic - If You Could Only See
It's a pretty good song with a lot of energy but again, it's one of those that doesn't really grab me. I don't dislike listening to it, there are just many other things I'd rather listen to. It doesn't help that I don't think it really fits the theme.
Willie Nelson - On The Road Again
Country again?! Well, I suppose ot's not that much of a shock considering both it and road trips are an American tradition. It's not a bad one either and I like how uplifting it is but once again, it is outclassed by some of the earlier picks.
