Part of me thought "yeah, this is gonna go real poorly," but at the same time, I haven't come this far to not take risks. This one didn't pay off. Maybe my next one will. Who can say?

I absolutely respect, and even like, the fact that you took a risk. {Spoiler}For that reason, I was sort of rooting for you not to be in the Bottom 2.

1. Gojira - "Born In Winter" 2. Arcade Fire - "Month Of May" 3. Wyclef Jean - "Gone Till November" 4. Jon Brion - "Norman's Walk" 5. Rebecca Pan - "Lan Hua Nu" 6. Nana Grizol - "Cynicism" 7. Sonny Vande Putte - "Seasons Of Love" 8. Youth Lagoon - "July"
Arcade Fire - "Month Of May"
Well, that's some old-school Rock if I ever heard it. And I really, reallylike it. It's really catchy and makes you wanna dance and sing along. You don't hear this kind of sound very often any more so it's actually kind of refreshing to have something like that, especially since it's also got a lot of personality.
Gojira - "Born In Winter"
Holy shit... that's really something I wasn't expecting to hear in FAN Idol but man am I glad I did. This is excellent. And one Hell of a tonal whiplash. Much darker than what I usually praise in this contest, it almost has a Black Metal feel, but it really struck a chord with me. It creates an incredible atmosphere. For once I actually wish it had kept the quieter tone all the way but I think the heavier part still worked for it.
Jon Brion - "Norman's Walk"
More tonal whiplash! And... you know... it's pretty and all... but it's nothing special to me. It's a movie soundtrack and it certainly feels like it. It's really not the kind of song to be enjoyed on its own.
Nana Grizol - "Cynicism"
Hm. I have mixed feelings about that one. It's not bad but I don't like this kind of nasal voices and overall the song is pretty dull to me. It's not bad, it's not very good.
Rebecca Pan - "Lan Hua Nu"
Weird mixture of Chinese and Italian culture here and while I usually enjoy this kind of unusual mixes, it doesn't really work for me. It's another one that's pretty but not much else. Maybe it works better in the context of the film but again, on its own, it's not strong enough.
Sonny Vande Putte - "Seasons Of Love"
A capella singing is usually hit or miss to me. It can really elevate a song and give it a lot of individuality, or it can make it lose elements that it really needs to work. Sadly, this is a case of the latter for me. It's an interesting exercise but not that compelling a song.
Wyclef Jean - "Gone Till November"
It's one of those songs that won me over as it kept going. I'm not a fan of Wyclef Jean as a person but he has undeniable talent and this song is really warm. There is a quiet strength coming from it that I really like.
Youth Lagoon - "July"
Doesn't work for me. It's one of those songs that to me seems to confuse monotony for depth. It reminds me of these arthouse films that seem to think that if the audience is bored, it means it's profound. Some life does get breathed into it halfway through but even then it's still not very interesting.

Round 22 will be posted tonight. I might not accept submissions for it yet, because I still need one song for the sing-off.

So this has been fun so far, right? Well now we're entering a new phase in FAN Idol XI. Everyone's gotta up their game, brothers! From now on, EACH round will feature MULTIPLE song submissions from EVERYONE! Most of these rounds will feature different themes for songs in the same round for you to submit, though some will feature simiar themes or even themes that correlate with each other. And some song pairs will be very similar. Like this one: ROUND 22: SAME NAME DIFFERENT SONGEveryone must send TWO songs with the same song title, or very similar song title, from two different artists. They can be two covers of a song, or an original/cover combo, or two different songs altogether. I won't set a deadline yet, because it is a holiday week in America, as well as the first double song round of the game, so I'll ease up for now.

I have an idea, but I think I'll wait until after the results/I get a better one (not as likely as you think) to act on it.
Sing-Off is crazy. Can't believe that one of those songs has to lose.

Which means we must say goodbye to Magnum tonight.

Well I did 4 spots better than last time at least. You showed a ton of musical diversity this game. Did not expect King Crimson at all to show up and it was, imo, perfect for that round. Loved the Kid Cudi choice and that whole 4 song or so span, with Marvin Gaye, Massive Attack, Kendrick Lamar, the Zombies there a bit earlier. Just a ton of good music with risk taking and, when you killed the round, you did so maybe better than anyone else this game. That Marvin Gaye performance was best song in a season tier. I went back and forth with the Father John Misty pick, but I just heard more going on in the other song. It was still an excellent choice. You can keep playing in up-coming seasons, but you'd make a fine judge for one of these things.

Which means we must say goodbye to Magnum tonight. This wasn't the season to do it for various reasons, but the past ideas you've had and Jazzman and a few others as well in terms of format should be used next (whenever there is a next one and I'm more confident now that there will be one) season. Would love to see this game using the World Series of Pop Culture format. That said, I wish that players like Canctus, Chaos, J, and now Mangum got a little further this game, just to see what they'd come up with. Doing that, though, would mean that the remaining players might not be around. It's a bit of an embarrassment of riches we have here, in terms of players. People who've already won, people who have been a staple of this game season after season, and people who are getting farther than ever before.

Things feel weird. Seven is where I went out last time, but at the same time, being in the final seven out of 15 means...what? That I'm only halfway home? Lots of work to still be done for everyone still in it.
