I'm still holding out hope for a Blanka appearance at the opening ceremony tomorrow.

Damn this is looking more and more like A GTA game than the 2016 Olympic games

When did Bob Costas start morphing into Peter Jennings? Kid's finally starting to look old.

270 Russians cleared to compete in Rio. It's farcical. Systematic doping on a national scale should have been met with systematic punishment for the national team. The entire Russian team should have been banned to send a message to international sports. The IOC are hideously corrupt. Yeah, but with all the problems surrounding these games, banning them would actually be a plus for them, because they wouldn't have to go there.

My favorite moments of the Olympics is the end. Hear me out.
At the beginning, it's so regimental. You march with your fellow country people all focused on winning a medal.
The end, it's like last call at a friendly bar. You have people from all over the world with their arms around each other, having a fun little walk into the Arena. They're talking, laughing, good ol' time. I like that. Gives me hope we can all get along, no matter where we're from.

Watching Nigeria-Japan in men's futbol action. Was 2-2 after 16 minutes, but seems to have settled down. I'd guess anywhere from 65-70% full here. Not a bad crowd at all.

Oh my lord, if the Brazilian National Team f*** up in front of their home crowd again, they're all going to have to go into hiding.

This kinda reminds me of Mr Burn's 9 ringer's suffering 9 misfortunes. Except it's a never ending cycle of misfortunes and everyone is getting hit

I am half expecting Rio to sink into the ocean when this is all said and done.

Pat Patterson should light the flame. He did win the IC Title in Rio, after all!

And turns out soccer legend (and odds on favorite to light the cauldron) Péle will miss the Opening due to illness.
Seriously, I haven't seen a cluster this big since Athens. Athens barely got it done, but the crowds were zilch and the last minute build expenses ruined the Greek economy and caused the whole European financial crisis in 2008. This is just... they had SEVEN YEARS to prepare and its... horrific.
I'll still watch and hope to be entertained since I'm hardcore when it comes to the Olympics (ninth Summer Games, seventeenth overall), but man... between Athens, Beijing and Sochi, anyone who doesn't see how bad the situation is now is blind.

Its like the people responsible for setting up the Olympics in Rio took a look at how horribly the games went in Beijing and Sochi and said, "Yeah, we can top that."

At least Beijing gave us deep fried scorpions on a stick. I loved the look on Bob Costas' face when they asked him to eat one. He did, but he appeared as if he'd rather eat fresh shit from a St. Bernard.

Its like the people responsible for setting up the Olympics in Rio took a look at how horribly the games went in Beijing and Sochi and said, "Yeah, we can top that." Overspending in totalitarian countries. Gee, I wonder how that ends up. Never seen that before. Except in 1936. But WAIT! It gets BETTER! The situation over the cost of the Games has gotten so bad that even cities that might weather the cost well (Munich, Oslo) opted to withdraw rather than bid for the 2022 Winter Games. That left the race between Almaty, Kazakstan and the eventual winner... Wait for it... Wait for it... BEIJING! The closest mountains are 150 miles away from the city and its going to be an encore of 2008 all over again! Oh, and by the way, also means the next three Olympics - 2018, 2020, 2022 - will be in Asia. PyeongChang, Korea; Tokyo, Japan; Beijing, China respectively. Two Winters and a Summer. I seriously cannot face palm hard enough. I can deal with Korea and Japan, that's fine. But I just cringe over rewarding the Chinese for bad behavior with another Games. But to be fair, the IOC created the situation themselves, they have no one else to blame for it. Sorry, been a while since I've had an Olympics forum to discuss and I got a metric ton I gotta get off my chest.

Yeah, if they wanna top this fiasco, going to North Korea would certainly do it. Not that going to South Korea will be a good idea since being in such close proximity to North Korea could cause a plethora of issues.

Chicago is looking pretty good right now compared to Rio's insanity.
