I know it wasn't the best move for the business, but man it was enjoyable. Everything he did with Angle clicked, whether it was the hilarious segments with Vince or the awesome matches when they became serious rivals.

Austin's PPV matches with Angle were absolutely stellar and it's a shame they're so overlooked. Angle made the transition from goofy heel to legit badass during these matches. Austin put him over a lot that summer. And then the company pissed it away with a nonsensical heel turn and then hitting the reset button the night after Survivor Series

The invasion was never the angle that pissed me off. It was the total snapback the next night.
Austin was literally straight back to beer drinking hero 22 hours after trying to murk the company.
He needed a redemption quest or something.

Comes in expecting 96-97. Leaves dissapointed.

I liked the initial heel turn where he became a scary psycho. That beat down on the Hardy Boys and Lita was amazing villain stuff. When it went off the rails for me was the hugging Vince and playing guitar stuff. Complete assassination of the Stone Cold character.

Just imagine Ambrose and Rollins stomping the hell out of Sasha or Bayley these days. Nuculus heel heat Would never happen, They'd get a shitstorm from USA and their sponsors.

Austin's 2001 heel run was terrible. His 96-97 heel work was amazing though.

2001 was his best year in ring IMO. If you don't have a problem with watching Benoit, the tag title match, two singles matches and triple threat with Jericho are all ace. Every program sans the Undertaker one had a motyc.

This is one of those things I didn't appreciate at the time because I was a kid who liked faces, but look back on now and really enjoy. The feud with Angle was awesome. I'll always look back fondly on Angle doing his best Stone Cold impression and dousing the Alliance with milk. Such a great Raw moment. That match with Angle at SummerSlam is one of my favorites ever.

It did give us my favourite wrestling t-shirt; the do unto others one.

I remember the time Undertaker attacked him threw in a glass window or something and as he was being stretchered off he kept whining to Vince how he didn't deserve this. It was so pathetic and funny.

If this is when he created the "WHAT?!" chant then I hate it. That was one of the worst things to happen to wrestling and I still hate it to this day because it's still infecting audiences.

Remember Austin did a podcast/commentary on his Summerslam match against Angle. Austin had being a nasty bastard down to a science, like the micro-positional fear/respect he'd offer the ankle lock, narrating that he made sure to emphasize that the Austin character was too scared to stick out the leg for the stunner because Angle would/could turn it to the ankle clamp in a second. Just a level of detail and mastery that escapes the likes of me on a conscious level.
