Given Styles's constant bemusement about Chikara, particularly regarding the women wrestlers, I can't imagine he was a particularly supportive or positive presence with his coworkers there, anyway. I figure the hate speech stuff was just based on his known history, and not a new development.

I can't help but wonder if Styles being terminated from CHIKARA was because both EVOLVE and CHIKARA appear to have a relationship with the WWE now. Seems like a drastic public relations move to look good in the face of that relationship. Beyond dropped him as well and the head of FloSports says Joey lied in his statement when claiming FloSports didn't care. Joey is an egotistical guy, that cannot take being wrong, look at the spin he put in his statement on the matter. He's never been able to show the restraint needed to work outside of ECW where he was given the ability to do whatever he wanted.

So he's being fired of chikara for something he said in another promotion !? Yes, but I believe it was due more to the overreaction of some CHIKARA fans on social media. Styles was fired from EVOLVE for bringing up politics in his commentary when he was asked not to. He even apologized to everyone and left early without taking his pay. He made a mistake and he owned up to it. Many wrestling fans decided to be offended by his comment for other reasons when he was clearly goofing on our next president. He didn't even use the most offense word in that quote. There were plenty of people that already hated Styles for whatever reason that decided to use this to push their own agenda to get him terminated everywhere else. Some people believe getting him fired will bring Chikarason back to CHIKARA. I wonder how they will feel when that doesn't make a difference. Some people also started proclaiming their superior political correctness and demanded his head. I also feel this move was to look classy in the face of their relationship with the WWE. "Look at how politically correct they are. Now that's a company we want to do business with!" The funniest reaction I've seen so far was "What about that delightful savage from Chad, Africa gimmick?" Personally I like that gimmick, but that comment made me laugh.

It's always been pretty obvious what his politics are, and he's certainly a guy who sticks to his principles. Like, if you think it's stupid, fine (though I disagree), but it's not fair to assume he was just being mercenary or cynical when there's no evidence for that..

He didn't get people pissed for "bringing up politics" he got people pissed for a shitty gross misogynistic joke that took inspiration from politics.
If he had made a similar comment that wasn't related to Trump, but still was about publically demeaning a co-worker as a sex object on-air, it would have been just as upsetting.

Kimberlee, one of their top stars, and Annie Social have a rather offensive tag team name in another company. I doubt that will affect her role at CHIKARA, even with their new zero tolerance policy for such things. Not saying it should, but it might be worth pointing it out. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/WSU_Tag_Team_Championship

"From this moment forward..." "directed at our..." and Joey lied about his actions and the reaction to them. How is this being missed? Plus there has never been a rule saying that you are protected from backlash in one place if you screw up in another. Expecting the right behavior out of your business partners at all times is common.

On this week's #FreeMatchMonday, we get singles action from "Cruise Control", as one half of "Dez Peloton", Donald Kluger, takes on "The Ecuadorian Aristocrat" Juan Francisco de Coronado!

It took Joey making a sexist comment to get the Roster page updated. Ms. Yolanda has been added.

If CHIKARA is willing to institute this zero-tolerance policy, it will be a pretty good move forward for the company.
The only issue from Quackenbush's blog, though, is that from this blog post, it seems like he's going to consider "mark" to be just as bad as the misogynistic, racist, and homophobic language...and that is a far bigger problem.
Even ignoring the "you're taking the term 'mark' to be as bad as what caused the Styles situation in the first place?" issue, there is the same issue that right now, there DOES need to be a little bit of separation between the patrons of pro wrestling and the pro wrestlers, and even if "mark" is stemmed in turn of the century carnival rules, it does help the difference.
Social media has lifted the curtain up a little bit for wrestling fans and pro wrestlers, and that has changed things so that there is more love and respect for the performers than there was at the past...but at the same time for it, there's some things about the craft of pro wrestling that wrestling fans JUST DON'T DESERVE to be privy to in a relationship between wrestlers and the fanbase, and a lot of that is stuff that fans secretly DON'T REALLY WANT to be privy to. This isn't talking about locker room talk or things that'd be covered in the zero-tolerance policy (or wrestling terms like "ringrat" which would be under misogynistic claims and ABSOLUTELY SHOULD be eliminated)...but rather opening the curtain too far for the fans. Using one good example of this- considering it to be, say, an actor friend of yours- if they got cast in a play or something, and you helped them work on their lines by reading it- it's something that'd be normal...but at the same time, no matter how close you are with a wrestler or how much you think you would like to be a fly on the wall for the conversation, you really wouldn't want to overhear that worker and their next opponent working on plans for how their match is going to go or the finish. On paper, it's the same as the actor example- but it also takes a lot of the magic away from the wrestling match to hear the plans being made.
It's even worse for CHIKARA, since the very thing that makes CHIKARA so great is how strict they are about their promotion's own kayfabe...but to keep kayfabe that strictly, you HAVE to treat your customers like "marks" in a certain way. Whether or not Kimberlee once had a team with an unfortunate name in WSU or DUSTIN has had some unfortunate named Youtubes- it's less important because CHIKARA fans are perfectly willing to accept 'indy standout woman Kimber Lee' and 'former CHIKARA Grand Champion Princess Kimberlee' are two entirely different wrestlers, even with a similar name- because in CHIKARA's universe they basically WOULD be. That also leads to the reason that "marks" can't be said- even in this thread, just a page or so before this storyline broke, there was a conversation dedicated to whether it was a fair move to say the identity of the first person behind the 17 mask- not even the CURRENT 17, but a previous person who played 17 and was replaced in the role. The CHIKARA viewpoint espoused today is "The patrons of our amazing art form deserve not just our respect, but our thoughtful presence of mind in 2016 and beyond...", but at the same time, CHIKARA takes a firm 'never, under any circumstances, discuss the identity of the person behind the mask' which is one of the biggest examples of treating wrestling fans like 'marks' in modern pro wrestling.

I know Ric just pointed this out, but I feel like this needs to be mentioned again.
Gabe told everyone, EVERYONE, not to make any kind of political statement or comment.
Joey Styles didn't listen to this.
Gabe told Joey to do one because HE DIDN'T LISTEN TO THE PERSON PAYING HIM!
If he wasn't listening to someone paying him in one company he was freelancing for, it doesn't look good for the other companies who also pay him to keep him.

SHANE MATTHEWS AND SCOTT PARKER ARE INDIE SECURITY TONIGHT FOR RAW FOR LESNAR AND GOLDBERG! BOOYAAAAH!! This is the third or 4th time they've been used on TV and were featured in an article on a recent tryout. If I was Matthews, I'd start deleting my old tweets before they cost him a job.
