Yes, how dare kids know that LGBT people exist! Do you trust WWE with this content? I don't. You know good and well that I said nothing about the existence of LGBT people. Overt sexual content isn't necessary or appropriate on a PG wrestling show. 1. How would having some gay people on the show constitute 'overtly sexual content' any more than having a bunch of straight people on the show? 2. Do you really think that exposing children to sexual content is "PC"? Wouldn't that be the exact opposite of politically correct?

If you thought Roman Reigns was horribly forced in, I can't imagine how WWE isn't going to make this look horribly forced to try and integrate with the times... and NOT cause some sort of uproar on some side about it either.

Sure, Steph. You can TOTALLY do this in a way that isn't going to piss off the crowds, the media, AND the internet (possibly for completely different reasons).

This'd be pretty simple to do right. Put out an open invitation for tryouts for LGBT+ wrestlers. Integrate their real-life stories and experiences with prejudice in the same way as they've done with the difficult situations that some of the CWC wrestlers have gone through.
Once they're on the roster, it can be part of their gimmick (on the level of Rusev coming to the ring with his wife) or as simple as them having their pride flag on their trunks like people do with their countries' flags, or have it just be part of their backstory without having too much influence on their stories - without erasing it.
Also, hire people from an organisation like GLAAD to oversee things and sign off on any storylines so we don't have another repeat of the whole Billy and Chuck turmoil, and to call them out when WWE lapses back into the 'gay jokes are funny' routine.

I actually have an idea for angle where a character is revealed as a gay baby face but I don't want to say it because I'm saving it for Nasty Nati Wrestling.

Really, the only two LGBT wrestlers --- at least of those who are considered out of the closet --- they have are Darren Young and Daria Bereneto down in NXT. Aside from them... unless they have people fake being homosexual there's not really much to work with here. Unless they want to bring Pat Patterson back as an on-screen character, which I doubt he'd be interested in doing. There are rumours about Finn Balor and Danilo (NXT eyebrows ref) too If those rumours are true about Balor, why would any suit immediately dry up 90% of his physical appeal to fans in an effort to grab at a population segment that a) has rarely self-identified as wrestling fans, b) has historically been attacked, insulted and their attractions mocked within wrestling - or indeed had seen wrestling itself compared denigratingly to their own attractions; and c) might become further insulted and offended by WWE's treatment of such integration if it's done wrong. Balor's reasons for not coming out (_if_, in fact, he is gay, about which he's not been particularly forthcoming) have almost everything to do with spreading his appeal as wide as possible; he would not be the first to keep it under wraps until long past the age where it might matter (see Richard Chamberlain, George Takei, Jim Nabors) or until it mattered completely, (Rock Hudson, Freddie Mercury.) There is also the possibility that he's a straight man who's not forthcoming about his personal life because a) he can and wants to appeal to all types; b) the speculation would be a distraction from his professional life and c) if he's attached to someone, he's eager to protect them from public scrutiny and possible risk - basically, the same reasons many wrestlers have not mentioned their spouses or kids except only briefly, if at all. There's also the question of wrestling as "sport" - a sport which, by its very nature, has very often been accused of homoeroticism and yet, as a form of hand-to-hand combat, sees elements of homoeroticism used both as a means of dominating one's opponent and of strengthening bonds within a team _on the men's side_. Coming out in pro wrestling as LGBT has always been fraught with risk and is still a non-starter in some markets. Darren Young does not have the option of Japan, for example, if things don't work out for him in WWE - there are others, including in North America, where being openly LGBT, especially given the current political climate, is a distinct risk, let alone a profitable commodity. Wrestling, despite all protests to the contrary, is not quite the same as acting - who we see on the screen or in the ring has been described as the private person dialed up to 11. The characters are simply extensions of the sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers and husbands and wives and boy- and girlfriends their loved ones encounter. What works for an actor like John Barrowman - as incredibly popular as he is in SF circles - won't work for many wrestlers even half as attractive. One can hope that things will change on the socio-political front, but the smart money will remain on the spot with the most power to make your fortune. In an endeavour like wrestling whose characters are often the object of fantasy, and deliberately so, outing someone like Finn Balor would be akin to leaving most of your money on the table. So, while WWE might be well-intentioned in their planning here, let's not pretend someone's just blown up the second Death Star. The execution of such a plan is going to be very, _very_ complicated and nobody should be holding their breath waiting for their Fave Five to step out of the closet - we have no idea how this will play out. For some, we and WWE might be better off never knowing for sure.

Vince probably thinks LGBT is a popular rap band and is going to be in total shock when he tries to put a concert together during a Mania intermission

Honestly, I don't think sexuality should have anything to do with wrestling. If you're gay, bi, lesbian, straight, whatever, it shouldn't matter if you can go out there and put on a great performance.

....... Making that thread was definitely worth it just for this So how is this going to work, exactly? Nobody on the roster has LGBT as an explicit character trait other than Darren Young, and even then, it's not right at the forefront of his character. He just is because the man in real life is. Anything added to an existing character might feel forced and tokenistic. Hold a tryout exclusive to out LGBT wrestlers? I'd hate that idea, LGBT people should be intergrated along with everyone else and giving them special treatment goes against that in my eyes. There would rightly be an uproar if they had a tryout exclusively for straight wrestlers so they shouldn't go the other way either. That's just me though. There are rumours about Finn Balor and Danilo (NXT eyebrows ref) too The ref is 100% "R Truth is playing Pokemon GO again" "No Cole, he's playing Pokemon Gay" Imagine if this entire storyline was to reveal he's be on Grindr all along and he finally finds his soulmate. D'awwww.
