Being a novice sports historian (i.e. I just happen to know a little bit of useless trivia about sports), I've noticed that for a long while in the NFL, there's been one team that has dominated a decade. In the 1950s, The Cleveland Browns went to 7 championship games, winning 3 of them. In the 1960s, the Packers won 5 championships and the first 2 Super Bowls. In the 1970s, we had the Steelers going back to back twice. The 1980s had the 49ers, 1990s the Cowboys, and the 2000s the Patriots. But, this decade has yet to see a repeat champion. There are reasons for this, such as free agency and the league pushing for parity. But, the decade isn't over yet. So, do you think we'll see a team get hot and dominate the rest of the decade? Or, is the dynasty a thing of the past?

Or, is the dynasty a thing of the past? Unless it's baseball or basketball where there isn't a salary cap or a game where one or two players can take impact a franchise, parity will remain extra strong for the foreseeable future. Which is a good f***ing thing because there's nothing fun of seeing the same few big market franchises dominate the league unless you're a fan of them. But it'll probably be the Patriots or Packers or Seahawks.

There will be a team of the 2010s; right now, it's still pretty wide open, too soon to tell which one it will be.

The best shot to become the team of the 2010s is unfortunately Seattle, due to what they've already done and their age.

Right now, there are three teams that have appeared in the Super Bowl twice since the start of the 2010 season: Seattle, New England, and Denver. All three are 1-1 in their Super Bowl appearances. Two teams have appeared in the playoffs all six years since the 2010 season: New England and Green Bay, while Seattle, Denver, and Cincinnati have all been in the postseason five out of the six seasons. Five teams have better than 60 wins in the six seasons: New England (75), Green Bay (66), Denver (62), Pittsburgh (61), and Seattle (60).
So going on those numbers, and the fact that they have appeared in the Conference Championship five out of the six seasons, with two Super Bowl appearances and one Super Bowl victory, at this point it's hard to argue with New England as the team of the first half of the 2010s. But there's still several seasons to play and a dynasty could appear from out of nowhere. Hell, for a while there it looked like San Francisco could have become the team of the decade and now they're toiling in the cellar of the NFC West.

Honestly with free agency hurting teams ability to build through the draft you're just not going to see many dynasties anymore. Yeah, the Patriots of the early-to-mid 2000's were one, but has there really been one between them and the early-to-mid 90's Cowboys or since? The days of one team just dominating and at the very least winning their division year after year after year will probably end the day Belichek retires. Instead, it's more a system now where a top 5 QB like Brady, Rodgers, Manning (last decade) can lead to prolonged success as long as the team is well ran, but they won't be heads and shoulders above the other teams that have top 5 QBs. Even then, sometimes a team just doesn't need great management and can have a few good years squeezed out by a good roster. Just look at the 09-11 Saints who have had one winning season since that time. And sometimes teams just get hot for a year just because they were due for one, like the 2010 Bucs or the Giants in 2007 and 2012.

So... here's a twist? Who would be the ultimate garbage team of the 2010's?
Browns? The Lions?... although they have had a few flashes of being not total garbage... those flashes normally just set the fanbase up for an even larger collapse soon after. The Rams appear to be interested in the running for Shittiest Team of the Decade. The Raiders are improving, so they probably aren't in the same category.... for now.

So far it's Seattle. One dominant SB, one yard away from another, and a much closer game than it should have been to go back to the SB last year. It feels like they should win every big game more than anyone else.

Yeah, when the Dolphins win the next four Superbowls, then you'll have your team of the 10s.

Denver, New York, and Baltimore have shots but they need to get back to form first. On terms of best chances I'd say... 1.Seattle 2.New England 3.Green Bay 4.New York 5.Baltimore 6.Denver

Im voting Jacksonville for shittiest team of the decade. What a total mess of a franchise. They dress, play and are ran like shit.

Yeah....Seattle wasn't in the NFC Championship last year so even if they did beat the Panthers in the NFC Divisional Playoffs, they STILL had the NFC Title game to go so no....they were not a much closer game than it should have been from going back to the Super Bowl last year.

Im voting Jacksonville for shittiest team of the decade. What a total mess of a franchise. They dress, play and are ran like shit. With how weak the AFC South is outside of the Colts when Luck is healthy, the Jaguars are rebuilt enough with solid draft picks and free agency signings where I think they can be competitive again. I honestly expect to be a threat in the division this year. They could be good enough to be second place and have a winning record this season, though I think they have a better shot of the division than the wild card as I'd expect the AFC North to claim both of those. At the very least, at least Jacksonville has known success. This current incarnation of the Cleveland Browns has appeared in the playoffs once and were one and done. And unlike Jacksonville, they show no signs of not continuing to be a dumpster fire. As for team of the decade, right now I think it belongs to New England since they've been to the AFC championship game almost every year in the 2010's and I don't think any other team has that sort of consistency. But I think Carolina has a real shot to be a mini-dynasty with Cam Newton's growth into a true superstar QB and the offense only getting better with his best receiver coming back. Seattle is also real dangerous, though I think their window is closing soon.

Just remember that the Browns would have stayed in Cleveland to start with if the NFL had awarded a franchise to Baltimore in 1993 instead of surprising everyone and going against all conventional wisdom by awarding it to Jacksonville.
