SmackDown is LIVE tonight in Dallas (the home of WrestleMania 32), and if you switched off after last week's episode, you'd have thought the focus would be on AJ Styles' upcoming challenge of Dean Ambrose for the WWE World Title at Backlash. But then Talking Smack happened...
As SmackDown Live GM Daniel Bryan and host Renee Young were going over the night's events, The Miz and Maryse walked onto the set, and what transpired got the Wrestling Internet talking for a whole week. Bryan accused The Miz of representing the WWE's old "Soft Style", which Miz defended because that meant he was available to wrestle week after week, not go away for a year and never come back like Bryan. After Bryan then stated he'd come back if "they" let him, Miz told him to quit if he loved wrestling that much, and go back to "the bingo halls". Bryan darted off the set, and Miz let rip. The question is, will we see this fire continue on the main show?
Looks like we might, because The Miz has an episode of Miz TV set for tonight. His guest, none other than Daniel Bryan! With any luck, they'll expand on their opinions of each other, and as SD Live GM, Bryan might actually put Miz to the test with his Intercontinental Championship. If The Miz is "The King of Soft Style", then Bryan will probably try and coax him out of that. But will Miz push Bryan's buttons even more?
As mentioned earlier, Dean Ambrose is set to defend the WWE World Title against AJ Styles at Backlash in two weeks. Styles defeated Dolph Ziggler last week to get the shot (in fact, Styles had the shot already thanks to his win over John Cena at SummerSlam, this win merely shut Ziggler out), and will look to send a message to Ambrose tonight. But what of Ziggler? All of his promises before SummerSlam have come to naught, and now he's further away from where he wants to be. What will he try and do to get back there?
We're mid-tournament for the new SmackDown Tag Team Titles, with The Usos and American Alpha through to the semi finals. Tonight, The Hype Bros take on The Vaudevillains, and the makeshift team of Rhyno and "free agent" Heath Slater will face a mystery team, rumoured online recently to be Attitude Era favourites The Headbangers. Remember that Slater has to win the tournament and the Tag Team Titles to officially be given a SmackDown Live contract, so if wants to feed his 24 children, and finance his above-ground pool, he has to treat this seriously.
Backlash will host the Six Pack Challenge to crown the first SmackDown Women's Champion (and they do all have nice six-packs). The talking point of last week saw the Princess of Staten Island Carmella completely lose it by attacking Nikki Bella from behind... and then doing so again when Bella was doing an interview on Talking Smack. But they're just two of the six, with Becky Lynch, Naomi, Alexa Bliss and Natalya all ready to pounce. Who will gain an advantage tonight?
Bray Wyatt is targeting Randy Orton, taking advantage of Orton's humanity, and claiming he's a god who would never bleed at the hands of Brock Lesnar. Will their confrontations turn physical? And will Commissioner Shane McMahon have more to say about Stephanie, Brock and Paul Heyman?
All this and much more tonight from 8/7c on USA... and last week was proof enough that you need to head to the WWE Network right afterwards for Talking Smack to see if anything else huge happens!
