It's really obnoxious to read all the "Oh man what a hero CM Punk is". Dude leveraged his fame on a goof at the expense of UFC's credibility. He accomplished no feat. Yeah, I've seen many people calling him a hero and it's just weird. Give me what CM Punk was paid to fight and I'll hop in that octagon whenever they want me to. Exactly what I'm saying. No one would be impressed with me for doing it, haha.

He earned nothing through merit in this farce. The bloom has long come off of Dana White's rose. It started with Rousey, and come to this. Dana may have money coming out of his ears now, but other than that, I'm not sure how much lower his credibility can sink.

In terms of UFC, does this really hurt their credibility as a promotion?

In terms of UFC, does this really hurt their credibility as a promotion? There's no realistic competitor, so not really. But frankly, that damage has been done. To me it feels like the public has started to think of them more as a freak sideshow attraction than a legitimate sport. I feel like this happened a while ago. CERTAINLY since McGregor's rise.

In terms of UFC, does this really hurt their credibility as a promotion? Nah, Couture did the same thing to James Toney they just fired him. Same thing will happen to punk. They may get in hot waters if people start digging around as to why the commission and the doctors even cleared him to fight.

Granted, UFC doesn't do that perception any favors with the, "Chicks, tattoos, and energy drinks, bro!" presentation.

In terms of UFC freak show slash gimmick fighters, is Punk a better or worse get than "Lights Out" James Toney?
Punk is the "Pro wrestling vs. MMA!" 38 year old rookie No actual fights of any kind. Plenty of stiff pro wrestling matches. Nearly 20 years of pro wrestling. Fought an up-and-coming prospect (Mickey Gall) Was instantly taken down and submitted in the first round Immediately released following the loss.
Toney is the "Boxing vs. MMA!" 42 year old MMA rookie Multi-year boxing career. No wrestling experience. More than 20 years of boxing (72-6-3 at the time) Fought a legitimate MMA Legend (Randy Couture) Was instantly taken down and submitted in the first round Immediately released following the loss.

Punk - no legitimate athletic background. Toney - pro athletic background. Both were unfit for the spot, and bad calls by Dana.

I'm casual at best when it comes to UFC so maybe I'm not the best judge but the criticism against Punk seems overblown, he definitely overshot to think that he can jump right to UFC at his age and be any good, and took advantage of his name to get there, but in the end if he can't hack it then he's gonna get beat and that's that. it's sideshowy for sure but I really can't blame CM Punk for wanting it if it's available to him, and UFC for taking a chance. That was a very surreal sight to see, that's for sure. I thought his promo at the end would have earned him one more shot but I don't think it's that realistic.

Gall saw how every single preview clip of Punk was that slow, dawdling 1-2 combo, and instantly shot for the takedown in fear of his life.

Dana saying right now if Punk wants to fight again it might not be in the UFC Scott Coker over at Bellator is fumbling around his cellphone trying to compose himself because he's about to text Punk if he's ready to take on Ken Shamrock.

Punk lasted longer than the last major wrestlers debut. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) Just from watching the video. The Ref should have called ig way earlier though. Punk was done after the takedown.
