Yeah, releasing a full priced MOBA style FPS with a bunch of colorful characters the same month that a massively hyped MOBA Style FPS with colorful characters is sone of the most boneheaded decisions Gearbox could have made. Hell I barely saw any advertising for Battleborn before it released... I would not be horribly surprised if most casuals didn't even know it was a thing. Yeah the marketing between the two games were worlds apart. The simplest way to sum it up is Overwatch had a promotion with a major fast food chain via Taco Bell, I don't remember Battleborn having anything like that.

After spending almost an entire day downloading Mafia III on the PS4, I'm compelled to reflect on how consoles are lying inferior machines that properly f***ed up.
A harsh reflection, perhaps, but a bloody true one. Their makers consider themselves in competition with PC, so they're asking for some harsh home truths.

I just finished the new Jimquisition, and I don't know what to think about it...
I have a PS4 and I only buy physical games, and I've never had any of the issues that Jim mentions. Out of all of the games that I've played, the only one I remember having a long install was MGS5 The Phantom Pain, everything else either plays immediately off the disc or only takes a minute to install. Plus the installs aren't that big anyway, as the game actually play off the disc, so I don't get that point.

I recently got Killer Instinct: DE for the XB1 on disc and it prompted numerous downloads for the game, the characters, the DLC, and more totaling about 45gb of downloading. And much like Jim said, even though it said ready to play at one point, it really wasn't, as nothing was really available to play at that time.

The days of putting the disc in and playing right away are long gone

It is becoming more of a problem, and I think what he said about how games are taking up a huge chunk of the hard drive is a pretty big issue. GTA5 takes up about 60GB on top of whatever data it has on the disc.
However, he did mostly ignore the main advantage that consoles have over PC games: When you stick a PS4 disc into a PS4, even if it takes a while to load, you know it's going to work on that PS4. Whereas with any PC game I buy, it's a gamble as to whether it'll even load up, and if it does, will it end up a plain black screen? If it actually plays, will it run well? Will it require every aspect of the graphics to be minimised? There's no guarantee whatsoever.

The days of putting the disc in and playing right away are long gone But they aren't though, which is what I was trying to say in my previous post. As I said before, out of all the PS4 games I've played, only a couple of them had long installs. The rest either load immediately or install extremely fast. I've actually had longer installs on PS3 games than I have PS4 games.

The days of putting the disc in and playing right away are long gone Well not long gone, just dying out. That style was still in use on the Wii U, but with all the signs pointing to Nintendo going down the path of some kind of handheld that can be hooked up to a TV and runs cartridges, it does look that era is finally coming to a close once and for good.

the wii u itself wasn't playable day 1 out of the box either and needed to updated... so that's not entirely true either.

Let's jump aboard the Nintendo Switch content train and hump it. Hump it until our genitals bleed!
Seriously though, we're talking about Nintendo's marketing this week, and the importance of visual communication when selling a product.

I think he's kind of full of it when it comes to the Skyrim part, since: 1. It'd be the Remaster, which sure as shit is not 3 years old. 2. It'd be portable, which would be a big deal.
I get the basic point he is going for, but if that does come out and isn't just a demonstration, it'll sell gangbusters.

There's also the fact that how much of the XBox and Ps4 library are made of remasters?

There's also the fact that how much of the XBox and Ps4 library are made of remasters? Pretty much. I get that his point is that Nintendo is playing catchup at this point, but I don't think it was a strong criticism. On the topic of Nintendo and Bethesda being mum about confirming or denying it, I think the Super Best Friendcast had a good theory, that if they announced it, Bethesda would be worried about it harming the sales of the other versions for people that might just hold onto their money until it gets out, which seems like a very real danger for them. Even if it is weaker or something than the consoles or the PC, I assume there may be some dropoff, but being able to take it on the go is something pretty freaking novel. Bethesda would especially hope for "double dipping" in this case, even more than usual, particularly with the big, wet bite that Sony's stubbornness probably took out of the likely Skyrim sales for the PS4.

As Bethesda proudly announces it will no longer provide review copies until the day before a game launches, The Jimquisition decides to deliver some hefty side-eyeing. This news came just as your very own Jim Sterling found out EA considers him a "wild card" who isn't to be trusted with high profile games like Battlefield 1.
Game publishers have been steadily manipulating the review process for years, and when you consider how shitty the "AAA" game world's become... is it any bloody wonder?

Bethesda, continuing to be deserving of the mockery they got over the buggy mess that was Fallout 4 when it came out, and probably all of their open world games for that matter.
