The CoD remaster is really pretty damned good, it is just up there because of marketing practices Jim hates. It is pretty greasy to nickel and dime people on not just a 9 year old game, but one you had to pay almost 100 bucks to get in the first place Nickle and dime? No such thing goes on, you can buy visual crap that aren't needed or affect the gameplay. You buy that stuff you nickle and dime yourself. Also, don't want to pay nearly $100 for it? Wait, it has already been sub $50 for that package a few times, and that game is coming out separate and we all know it. It is a bit of a scuzzy tactic from marketing, but don't fall for it.

Open world games are everywhere, and it's getting really stupid. You can tell they're happening just to follow a trend as well, since so few open world games manage to justify actually being open world.
There are blatant clues found in many of these desolate sandboxes, and we're going to talk about them and why they're making videogames rubbish.

I liked the big-ass world in Xenoblade Chronicles X. Helped that it was thematically appropriate, had a lot of content that did not feel forced, and traversing it wasn't a big pain in the ass.. well, most of the time. If more open world games made that amount of sense, there wouldn't be a need for a video such as this, but I think he's right. Many games would benefit from scaling back a little.

The damn budgets wouldn't be as high either if they scaled back a bit. A lot of these open world games have inflated budgets because they have to fill these damn giant worlds with stuff and that means needing more people to handle doing all that......

Yeah, like, to a degree, I imagine they try to stretch their dollar, and I'm sure assets get re-used, but that still has to add up. If they cooled their jets a little, this projects wouldn't end up with razor-thing profit margins, but "Triple A" publishers have to keep trying to justify that pretense. Maybe they think they simply can't make an 8 hour game without getting crucified for it, so they have to crank up the filler.

As he pointed out No Man's Sky is absolutely the biggest offender of this. There really is about 5 minutes of gameplay... which is what made all the lies that the developers told in the pre-launch hype even more obvious.

Yeah, I think the industry is at times guilty of losing touch with what made video games work in the first place. Look at Pac-Man, one simple screen but engaging, action packed and fun to play.

With Pokemon Snap finally arriving on the North American Wii U Virtual Console, it's time to get something off my incredible tits.
Let's talk about Nintendo's terrible VC release structure.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fH_wl8ceAgThe Nintendo Switch Presentation revealed more details about March's Wii U successor and... it was okay. The presentation was okay. However, it wouldn't be Nintendo without some frustrating, infuriating caveats, so let's see how they ballsed this one up, shall we?

I pretty much had to agree with Jim on this one.

I am pretty much a blind Nintendo fanboy and even I was like "um, ok?" after that thing.

I like Jimbo, I do. But I hate, hate, HATE when he's beating on a (by now) dead horse that was never funny to begin with (I seriously roll my eyes every time he goes on a tirade about asset flipping scummy Steam stuff. He did what, 8 Jimquisitions about that last year?), no matter how many memes he puts in there (although I do love the "here's a TV that looks like an Apple" one)... AND NO "CHAINS OF LOVE" ON A NINTENDO RELATED VIDEO, JIM? WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU!?

Well, he got both NoA and NoJ to copyright claim this one, so that shouldn't matter.

Battleborn is not the only 2K Games release to have suffered indignity this generation. Evolve, more famous for its DLC model than anything it did as a game, was another multiplayer shooter that failed to do anything better than fail.
The fate of Evolve serves as a cautionary tale to any would-be project banking on additional content to make its money. Audience goodwill is a finite resource, and when you push for excess at the expense of quality, you might just find out how finite it is.

Great video. Games like Evolve usually do it for me but all of the crap surrounding the release was too much.
